16 road games is beyond unfiar if they can play in San Antonio they should do so, you put NFL tickets for sale any where it will sell out likeity split esp if you do part of it for charity.

I still say the best thing to do is just play a road schedule.  Entirely feasible and fair to all parties.

How is that fair to the team or the fans?

The team needs a home, even if its a temporary one. to me, the best option is LSU, but I completly understand the humidity and overuse issues that could happen. When the bears played at Illinois, humidity wasn't near the issue, there was turf, the the plan was in place for at least a year prior. They are trying to figure out where to move an entire NFL team in the matter of a few weeks.

Someone mentioned they could use the Saints turf in the Alamodome...I'd rather see them pack up the people at the Superdome before that turf goes anywhere.

Yeah, but Illinois has synthetic grass in their stadium, meaning that it can hold up if games are being played on that field two days in a row. I have my doubts about the Saints playing their games at Tiger Stadium mainly due to the fact that Tiger Stadium uses natural grass. Natural grass wears down pretty substantually over the course of a season.

But, to give Tiger Stadium the benefit of a doubt, the grounds crew at LSU does take good care of the field there. I've been on the field myself, and it is one of the best natural grass game fields that I have ever been on.

I didn't say load up the Saints' turf and haul it anywhere, just that the surface they already have at the Alamodome is the same (OK, maybe different manufacturer) as what they play on at the Superdome.

Also, word is the NBA is already looking into a season-long alternative home for the Hornets.

They couldnt do that, the Saints turf is most likely damaged by the floodwaters in the Superdome.

As for where I think teams should go

Saints- split the home schedule between San Antonio and Birmingham

Hornets- Shreveport

Sugar Bowl- Shreveport, maybe cancel the New Orleans Bowl for the season

Tulane and other NO Universities, not sure of

ECHL Mississippi SeaWolves- move to Jackson for the season.

Could NO be ready in time for the AFL VooDoo, unsure at this point

There are several problems with Death Valley. The first one being that they play on natural grass and back-to-back games like that would leave the field pure crap by October and worthless for the rest of the season. Also,I dont think the NFL would be keen on having the Saints play at night for most of the rest of their home games.LSU plays almost exclusively at night at home because the humidity is unbearable.THIS is the reason the Saints have a dome in the first place,it has nothing to do with rain or the elements.Almost year round you get a reverse Mile High effect where your lungs cant grasp the thick, heavy air. This lifts at night and it's much easier to play. The Saints in black uniforms on a Sunday afternoon in early October in the bayou? You're really asking for trouble when you play out that scenario. That's why I say Shreveport is the best choice.

How is the humidity in New Orleans/Baton Rouge any different than Jacksonville, Tampa, and Miami? Or Auburn, Tallahassee, and Gainesville?

Well, the difference in New Orleans is that it is in a bowl, so in most places you would have a breeze to cool it off a bit where any breeze in New Orleans is ten feet above your head so theres not much relif from the heat. Plus, on top of that, there is so much swampland near the area which also contributes to the humidity. but im not sure how it compares to any of the other places youve mentioned

I dont think anyone is "worrying" about this. We find it interesting, this is a sports discussion board we are discussing a sports topic. I dont think there is anything wrong with that & I dont think there is any disrespect to anyone intended. If we're offending, we're sorry, we didnt think this would offend and if you are offended I dont know what to tell you, there could be more positive things YOU could be doing also than complaining about a topic on a discussion board that IS relavent.

No, man.. i meant that it would be insulting to people sitting on roofs of buildings for the CITY to devote even one second of thorught to the Saints before saving people's lives.

Though, re-reading, i see how you saw it that way. I meant for the city, not for us. I enjoy this interesting discussion.

BTW, I just found out my uncle who lives there is safe. His apartment building colapsed, but he's alive.

At this point, it's hard to say that the Alamodome is even an option. The Astrodome is full, they're not taking any more refugees. The next large building that can house them all would have to be down in San Antonio.

As I pointed out earlier, LSU's and the Saints' schedules make Baton Rouge a viable option.

LSU's home schedule:

9/10 Arizona St.

9/24 Tennessee

10/15 Florida

10/22 Auburn

11/5 Appalachian State

11/25 Arkansas

TBA North Texas

Saints's home schedule:

9/18 NY Giants

10/2 Buffalo

10/16 Atlanta

10/30 Miami

11/6 Chicago

12/4 Tampa Bay

12/18 Carolina

12/24 Detroit

The Saints and Falcons could swap home games. This leaves the November 6 game as the only major problem. In this case, I suppose that they could play elsewhere for that one game.

It has been mentioned that other facilities (i.e., Giants Stadium, etc.) often host multiple games in the same weekend, so why couldn't Tiger Stadium at LSU, or Relilant Stadium?

The answer, I believe, is that Giants Stadium and the others are designed and staffed to handle a quick changeover. On the occasions that the Giants and Jets play the same weekend, there is a whole crew that comes in after the first game and works through the night just to clean up, re-do the field, change the markings, and get things ready for the next day.

It's the same way an arena can host a hockey game in the afternoon and a basketball game at night. They are prepared and staffed to do that.

At a stadium where that is not the standard practice, there may not be the personnel needed to make such a quick changeover. I suppose the Saints and/or the NFL could provide such a staff (there are, after all, a lot of people needing jobs now). But it doesn't exist at the present time.

bucfan, the correct answer is "There is no difference." And I like how you answered Hedleys question without really answering it. What a magnificent read.
