New Orleans Saints to ?

I think no matter where the Siants this year go no matter if its home or road all the money from the game on tickets shouls go to disaster relief.

It would be nice for that to happen, but I don't see all of it going to a fund. Some? Yes. All? No. Just because a football team is basically a business that can't afford to lose all of the ticket sales from one year. Like I said, maybe some.

I came up with an idea.....have the Saints play their "home" games in cities that do not have NFL teams and do what they did in Arizona for the Chargers game, take donations for tickets. Here is a potential city list I came up with:

9/18 - vs. Giants @ San Antonio (Alamodome)

10/2 - vs. Buffalo @ Salt Lake City (Rice-Eccles Stadium)

10/16 - vs. Atlanta @ Baton Rouge (Tiger Stadium)

10/30 - vs. Miami @ Tallahassee, FL (Doak Campbell Stadium)

11/6 - vs. Chicago @ Louisville, KY (Papa John's Cardinal Stadium)

12/4 - vs. Tampa Bay @ Los Angeles (Rose Bowl or LA Coliseum)

12/18 - vs. Carolina @ Columbia, SC (Williams Brice Stadium)

12/24 - vs. Detroit @ Las Vegas (Sam Boyd Stadium)

let me know if you like this idea or if you think some venues should change

It would be unfair to have a team hop around like that. Find the Saints one or two sites to play out of. They'll have enough distractions without having to bounce between all those facilities.

How about:

10/2 - vs. Buffalo @ Syracuse (Carrier Dome)

after all, you're playing Miami and Chicago closer to the "visiting" team ... and if its for donations, you'll get more money filling the place with Bills fans.

As a Bills fan I like that idea but it would basically be giving Buffalo 9 home games.

My gut feeling is they'll play their home games at either LSU or La Tech this year. NFL teams tend to lean toward college facilities as temporary homes. The Chicago Bears played at the University of Illinois when Soldier Field was being re-constructed; the Seattle Seahawks played at the University of Washington between their stays at the Kingdome and Qwest Field; the Tennessee Titans played their home games at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis and Vanderbilt University before they moved to the Coliseum.

To get the peoples mind off of things since they will be in the Astrodome, if at all possible show the Saints-Raiders game on the jumbotron, or even after that have the Saints play a scrimmage with the Texans a day or two after their Oakland game just for the people at the Astrodome for free. It could definitly get their mind off things for a while and give them something to do.

A road schedule? I'm sorry, will, but you're crazy!

I believe the last team to have an all road schedule (the Arena League's Houston Thunderbears) folded after a rather crappy season. Trust me, it won't work.

I say they should have their home games at Baton Rouge. Having the games at Tiger Stadium will not give them a bit of a home field advantage, but it'll be great for the healing of the state after Katrina. Saint fans and LSU Tiger fans down in Baton Rouge on the weekend would do so much for the healing process.

Yeah but think about how many people would be in the area during the weekend. Football games take a long time to recover from. Trying to ask the city to Have an LSU game one day, clean up and prepare for the Saints the next day wouldnt exactly be easy

The Saints are probably in San Antonio for the foreseeable future. It's Benson's second home, so why not?

On the local sports station it sounded like San Antonio was confirmed.

And he had nice things to say about the CFL, and misses the Texans-who technically were the last US based franchise standing--after all the others except the Stallions folded (some tried to move) they still considered going on, but when Jim Speros moved the Stallions (the most successful US team-both on & off the field) to Montreal, but they were the only US based franchise theur first year in Sacramento, and decided not to do that again, so they folded-as the longets running US franchise as well--2 years in Sacramento, one in San Antonio.

(They had nice unis too)

Well I give you this...and remember I'm here in the middle of everything.

Both local radio,John Clayton, and Chris Mortensen have reported that botht eh Saint and the NFL want to keep them in a Louisiana site for this season, with them both mentioning Death Valley in Baton Rouge. To me the best, most logical choice is Independence Stadium in Shreveport.Shreveport is now the state's largest city and they poured millions into that stadium a couple of years ago and it is a really nice facility now.Allo major roads in LA lead to Shreveport and it would be fully capable of suporting an NFL team for a season.Add to that the fact that no one calls that stadium home and you have a winner.

There are several problems with Death Valley. The first one being that they play on natural grass and back-to-back games like that would leave the field pure crap by October and worthless for the rest of the season. Also,I dont think the NFL would be keen on having the Saints play at night for most of the rest of their home games.LSU plays almost exclusively at night at home because the humidity is unbearable.THIS is the reason the Saints have a dome in the first place,it has nothing to do with rain or the elements.Almost year round you get a reverse Mile High effect where your lungs cant grasp the thick, heavy air. This lifts at night and it's much easier to play. The Saints in black uniforms on a Sunday afternoon in early October in the bayou? You're really asking for trouble when you play out that scenario. That's why I say Shreveport is the best choice.

I went to New Orleans last July and ive gotta tell you, ive never been as miserably hot as i was then. I felt like i was about to pass out just walking from the Super Dome to the stadium where the Hornets play and i was wearing a white Clima Cool T shirt and a pair of cotten shorts. I cant imagine trying to play football, on top of all that in all black outdoors during the day in New Orleans. Fans would die in those kind of conditions let alone what it would do to the players.

That's exactly right. And for those that dont know....the Hornets play only about 150 feet from the Super Dome, and if that short of a walk was unbearable imagine an entire game.I was there last July as well and your body feels many pounds heavier in that climate. It's different that any in the NFL.

Slightly off topic; if New Orleans Arena is right next door to the SuperDome, then it stands to reason the Hornets will need to find a new place to play too. I thought we had a thread a short time ago saying the Hornets were considering leaving town anyway, did they already have another city in mind? I ask only because San Antonio wouldn't be a good choice for them.

Also- with the city ordered to be abandoned for the time being, does that mean schools like Tulane are closed for classes or does that mean that they too will try to transfer operations to somewhere nearby?

We all have our little faults. Mine's in California.

Tulane, UNO and some smaller schools have cancelled classes indefinitely. The Tulane football team first evacuated to Mississippi, then had to leave there and is now in Dallas. They said they will stay there at least until the SMU game.

The NCAA is considering suspension of the rule that requires students to attend class in order to be eligible to play in cases when natural disaster is the reason they are not attending classes.
