ESPN has the Giles deal up too.

Rumor from Scout.com says that Burnett and the Cardinals are very close to a deal. Cardinals want a deal before the Winter Meetings so they can pursue trading away Jason Marquis. They are supposidly talking to quite a few teams about this. The deal is somewhere in the 4 year range with a 5th year, the only hang up in Burnett's finalization. However if Baltimore or Toronto come up with a better offer for burnett, it could come undone. This coud potentially blow up in the Cardinals face if they don't sign Burnett, and have an agreement to trade a way their potential 4th starter, they could be left to settle for signing Matt Morris, Kevin Millwood or something similar.

The article also said that MLB would like teams to wait for any announcements until the Winter Meetings which start on Monday.

Paul Konerko resigns with the White Sox.  5 Years $60 million.

Didn't the O's offer more??

Yep. We offered 5/65, but he took a hometown discount, and I can't blame him. He said he liked the city, liked Camden Yards, but said he was for sure coming back after they acquired Thome.

Several media sources, including Jason Stark, commented on a possible Manny Ramirez/Bobby Abreu deal. Stark said that the Phils passed, because they would only deal Abreu for frontline pitching, plus the salaries don't match up.

Another trade rumor has Abreu going to SF for Jason Schmidt.

"The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed."

Dr. Kelso: My son is a big baseball fan. Not so much playing it, but more the designing and sewing of uniforms.

Tyler: That's neat.

Dr. Kelso: No, it's not.

Yea, I don't either. It definitely would've been nice, but I wasn't too surprised when he stayed with the Sox.

hmmm......i dont know what to think about that one.

and in other hot stove news....

Giants signed reliever Tim Worrell to a 2 year deal today.

I dont like it. We need a bat for sure, but Abreau is overrated and Schmidt anchors that staff. Although his injury could make that a decent trade.

Hmmmm...... i guess im with you on this one Mike.

Another Marlins firesale, Juan Pierre could end up in NYY for Scott Proctor and a prospect, or in Texas for Lance Nix and a pitching prospect.

Yeah, we've heard that one too, but nothing in print....only rumors websites...

The Phils just released 2 players from the 40-man roster (Liriano and F.Perez), so they might be up to something... :ninja:

Now that the Ramirez-for-Abreu rumor has been killed, there's another circulating between the BoSox and Phils that would send Trot Nixon and Matt Clement to Philly for Bobby Abreu.

Ooh, I'd do that deal in a heartbeat! Juan Pierre coming to Philadelphia for the row of petunias they uprooted to push back the left field wall at CBP would also be a nice addition if and when Abreu gets traded. It's not that I don't like Abreu, but he's not worth the contract he's earning.

The sooner Gillick undoes the long-term consequences of the Ed Wade Era by dumping the long-term deals of underperforming psuedo-stars, the better off the team will be. But it could take him 2 seasons to rid the team of these guys.

"Start spreading the news... They're leavin' today... Won't get to be a part of it... In old New York..."

In order for the Mets' run of 12 losses in 17 games to mean something, the Phillies still had to win 13 of 17.

Sweet, the Jays still getting ignored... So I'll update y'all with the happenings of baseballs forgotten team (best non-new york/boston team in the AL East 7 of the last 8 seasons!).

A.J. Burnett was spotted at a Raptors game with Roy Halladay the other day.

B.J. Ryan (who apparently only the Yanks are interested in) is supposed to be in Toronto touring the city.

Brian Giles and Mike Piazza are both supposedly very interested in coming to Toronto.

I would be shocked if Toronto aquired any of those guys you just listed, but good luck anyways.

*coughs*
