Cubs reportedly sign Jason Marquis to a 3yr/$20 million deal.

Can you say overpaid? Don't get me wrong, I like Jason Marquis and he's a good pitcher if his attitude is in check but $20 million? Jeez Andy Pettite only got $16 million from the Boss.

These salaries are getting out of control.

Look at it this way-thats 20 million the Cubs can't spend on a genuinely good player. :P

ESPN reports Texas agrees to 1 yr deal with Eric Gagne.

So does Foxsports.com

Ok, so.......... What exactly are the Rangers trying to do? They've made a coupla moves, but for the most part its all fluff. Theyre not going to win anything with Lofton and Gagne. Now toss Zito into the mix, and maybe things change....

Darren Oliver to the Angels in a one year deal with an option for a second year.

Something tells me that when a team with a good bullpen ends up signing both Speier and Oliver, Arte's got to be up to something.

God, I hope so. Gary Matthews isn't the big bat the Angels needed, although he'll improve the worst defense in the bigs. I'd love to see LaRoche in Anaheim next year, if obviously not someone else with an even bigger bat. I just really don't want Ervin Santana to go anywhere...I could definitely live without Bartolo though. Shields is iffy. I feel as though they may be alright without him, assuming a big bat comes into play, I'm still reluctant to find out what might happen without one of the best setup men in the league in the pen.

I'm still pulling for Zito to come to Anaheim(although it's probably unlikely), making some starters expendable.

NESN and ESPN both reporting that the Red Sox and Daisuke Matsuzaka have agreed on a 6 year contract worth approximately 52 million.

He is reportedly on his was to Mass. General Hospital for a physical at this time, so it seems like he should be a Red Sox.

Vernon Wells agrees to terms on a 7-year, $126 million contract.

Full Story

I think he wanted a no trade glause, incase the blue jays dont make playoffs i guess lol. But overall good deal makes wells the 6 riches man in mlb, and goes down history as highest payed blue jays. I hope he plays better now with the new contract he got. Just image what its guna cost to re-sign after 7 years ? lol.

I think what makes the deal even better for this season is that this contract doesn't start until the 2008 season. That means the Jays still have money to spend and are not done in their hunt for 1 or 2 SP to fill their rotation.

And that could only make things more competitive in the AL East race.

Lofton is a one-year stop gap in CF because there really wasn't anyone out there who would make a difference and he's a definite upgrade over Marlon Byrd.

Gagne was an opportunity to upgrade their bullpen by taking a risk on him... if he's healthy, he'll not only be perhaps the best closer in club history, but also make Otsuka expendable, as there's quite a bit of interest around him... he could bring in another bat, or a starter.

A lot of the plans hinge on Zito... I was baffled by their non-pursuit of Schmidt to be honest... but if they sign Barry, and Mark Mulder, who they recently gave an offer to, by the all star break, their rotation would look like this: Zito, Millwood, Mulder, Padilla, Tejeda/Danks/Volquez/Hurley...

All of a sudden, they're a dangerous team.

Jeff Suppan to the Brewers for 4years 42 mil.

Can't blame him for taking it.

I guess the Cardinals offered something around 3 years...20 million.

Thanks for the World Series...here's a well below average offer...

Let the Braden Looper Starting Pitcher Era begin...ugh...
