Tampa Bay Buccaneers to wear orange throwbacks in 2009

This... this brings a tear to my eye and I'm a Buffalo Bills fan. One of the greatest uniforms of all time is returning.

Nothing against you, but I wouldn't say those creamsicles were exactly the greatest because the detractors (some of them Bucs fans) will tell those nostalgic for the creamsicles, with equal conviction, that the old uniforms evoked years mostly of mediocrity.

On a side note, I'd like to see the revival of the Chargers set in that photo and the Bills sets from that same time period. After all, 2009 will be the NFL's 90th season and the 50th season for the AFL charter members.

Not to mention the fact that they are just plain ugly.

I'm all for nostalgia and throwbacks....but it makes me laugh when I hear so many people commenting on how great those unis were when just about everyone I knew growing up...even Buccaneer fans (trust me there weren't many) couldn't wait for a change of identity.

Everyone has their own opinions, and thats fine, but lets be serious here. One of the greatest helmets and uniforms of all time are being CURRENTLY worn by the Bucs. and I hope they don't ever change them.

I like how they kept a little orange as trim. It really makes the number stand out.

Yeah but it doesn't quite work on the white jerseys. It seems to get lost in the sea of red. I love how it works in the red unis. Makes for a nice accent.

Part of the reason why it gets lost is due to the fact that the Orange that they use on their current uniforms is a darker, and "redder" Orange than they previously used:

Very True.

I think they kind of "half-assed" the inclusion of orange. I feel that if they were going to do it right it should be (as you mentioned) with the correct shade of orange and a bit more prominent or just leave it out all together. I actually own an old Warrick Dunn Red jersey and unless you're really looking for it, you can easily miss the orange.

Yeah thats really my only gripe about the Buccaneers unis. I didn't realize just how washed out the red and orange get until I picked up a white jersey. But honestly the thing that makes it so washed out is the black outline on top of the red and orange. It's almost like it's too much of a contrast.

Thanks for the pick up of the different shades of Orange from the Bucs uniforms. They could have at least kept the same shade from the old uniforms. I also noticed the difference in shades back when they changed to the new uniforms. I contend that the old light orange is the same color that the University of Tennessee currently uses. Would love to see a photo of the authentic jerseys of both the Vols and the Bucs laid across each other for color comparisons. Hard to tell from the color computer boxes from the internet.

I'd guess they'll do it for the Green Bay game, the only home game against a division rival from that era. I wish the vikes were playing there this year.

I wonder if superfluous black will ever come back into style. Will people be champing at the bit to see the Lions bring back the Matt Millen uniforms? Drafting too many wide receivers! Mass walkouts! The worst football team of all time! IT'S BACK!

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

For the low, low price of $44.95, you too can own the gheyest t-shirt of all time!

Here's why I hate when the Bucs release throwback stuff...because I have all the stuff I had when I was a kid that distinguished me as a true Buc fan and not a person who grabs throwback stuff or jumped on when they switched colors or became good (for a while at least).

The thing that kinda stinks is that Brooks is cut. He was the last to actually wear these things. He might be the only one left from those jerseys in the league. Sapp, Alstott, Lynch (the other populars) are long gone. Makes me want to pull out my replica Alvin Harper #82 jersey. I can still remember being in the mall. Do I want this good receiver from the Cowboys or this unproven rookie #99? Great choice. Harper switched digits and faded away. Sapp became one of the Buc greats.

You are correct, as per a blurb in the St Petersburg Times this morning.
