ACTIVATED!

(of course, Dustin Moseley goes on the 60-day DL)

I've never been sold on Moseley anyway.

At least they have the rotation pretty much set: Lackey, Santana, Saunders, Weaver, Escobar, in some order. Palmer available to spot start.

I'm not a big Moseley fan, either. I was just making the point that the Angels' rotation/pen has had the worst luck this year. Hopefully Shields gets healthy quickly.

Agreed. I never actually saw all the things people said that Moseley could do.

Such a relief to see Escobar back out there and the true Opening Day rotation in place.

Personally, I'd prefer the rotation as Lackey, Escobar, Saunders, Santana, Weaver. But any combination of the those would be just fine

I have been pleasantly surprised with Palmer too. He's been nothing but a stud. I'm very confident in putting him in for spot starts or him coming out of the bullpen. Hell, I'd replace him in Shields' role.

Shields has always been a very hot/very cold pitcher. This year he has been more of the latter. I hope he does get healthy, and I hope he takes this time to get his mechanics down right. When he is on, he is nothing but devastating.

Hoepfully now with all of our pitching (save Shields) back to the way the should have always been. Now to make the slow and steady climb back in front of Texas. I'd rather have a hot late season run than the hot early season run of last year (and Texas of this year).

Let's Go Halos!

Just when you thought Brad Lidge was back, he blows another one. I don't want to hear about the error.

There's nothing worse than when a closer goes bad. Just shoot him and get it over with.

At this point I hope something happens to him so they have no choice but to DL him. He's killing this team. They should be on their way to a four-game sweep of the Dodgers, but this clown blows two straight saves. You can hear it during his interviews - he's like a deer in headlights. A total p ssy.

6 blown saves in 1/3 of a season. Any other closer would have had the role yanked from him. Charlie Manuel is loyal to a fault to Lidge; that and the $12,000,000 salary likely means that Lidge is still the closer for the time being.

The shame of it is that there are viable closer options in the recently-activated JC Romero and Ryan Madson. Should be interesting to see if either of these guys gets closing opportunities now that the bullpen has both.

If not for Lidge, Matt Stairs would have been the hero in LA once again for the Phils.

Even with Brad's struggles and the recent ineptitude with RISP, the Phillies still find themselves on pace to win 96 games - fairly certain that would result in a third consecutive NL East title.

it just boggles me the up-and-down career lidge has had:

2003-04: Sets NL record for K's by a reliever. Dominant setup-man, turned closer when Billy Wagner is dealt.

2005: All-Star, 45 Saves

2005 NLCS: Pujols rings his bell with a HR that still hasn't landed.

2006-07: Loses closer role, ERA over 5.

2008: Best closer in the league, 1.91 ERA, 42 for 42 in saves.

2009: Blown 6 saves in 19 chances, ERA over 7.

And the Phils are three games ahead of the Mets - it doesn't particularly matter how well Lidge is pitching right now. He'll be back to his normal (2008) form soon enough.

Randy Wells might be the best pitcher in the majors without a win right now. His first two career starts, he goes 5 and 6 innings letting up no runs in either game. Then he went 7 innings in each of the next two games, letting up 3 and 2 runs respectively. And his two most recent starts, 7 innings then 6 and 2/3 letting up 1 and 2 runs respectively.

That's a 1.69 ERA to go with his 0-2 record. Can the Cubs please get him a win next time out, blowing it for him is getting pretty old.

It is unbelievable how this keeps happening to him. He is on fire, but yet has a 0-2 record. I honestly dont feel confident when he is pitching because of the way his leads get blown by the rest of the team. it is so hard to watch

I certainly hope you're right. If not for those two blown saves, they would have swept the Dodgers four straight, and gone 7-0 on the west-coast trip. It would have been nice to make a statement that they're the best team in baseball right now, but it's still early, and there's a lot of games left to be played.

The Braves need to make some hay this week against the Pirates & Orioles, because after that they are about to go on a death march for their next twelve games:

3 @ Red Sox

3 vs. Yankees

3 vs. Red Sox

3 vs. Phillies

So yeah, basically a 9 game road trip against the top 2 teams in the AL East (knowing how the crowd is for Yankees and Red Sox games. :P) and then a series against the defending champs. Basically, if the Braves don't do well this month, 2009 is a wrap for them.

Just when I've all but given up on them, the A's have strung together 6 straight and 7 of their last 8. They're FINALLY playing like a team who shouldn't sell at the deadline.

But they probably still will... Sigh. At least the Giants are playing well.

I think the make up game against the Cubs is thrown in there as well.

Almost forgot about that. Yeah, that's gonna be a killer as well.

Over .500 over this stretch = we may have a shot.

Under .500 over this stretch = we will have to pull a 2007 Rockies to win this :censored:.

LOL. The GM says "this move was not voluntary", and Lidge himself insists that he's perfectly healthy. Maybe instead of a sprained knee, they should have just listed the reason as sucking.
