Linus Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 Chelios should have retired years ago. About time Detroit let him go, like come on, they didnt have anyone in the minors better than him and probably cheaper? beLEAF

The_Admiral Posted June 23, 2009 Posted June 23, 2009 I don't want to hear any sappy crap about Chelios retiring as a Blackhawk, unless you can prove that he's still a better defenseman than Matt Walker. (Maybe this isn't far-fetched.) ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Also, didn't Gainey bring up Lever as an assistant when he went behind the bench? Quite a reversal from being brought up to the big club to getting dial-a-dumped.

Take it from a Devils fan who knows. Congrats on getting a coach who has done absolutely nothing.I can't help but feel something's very wrong with this situation and I'm not saying this just because I'm a Devils fan. Something changed with the team after Brodeur's record setting win. Yes, Marty wasn't fantastic either but the Devils' system and way of playing seemed to change. Is tampering a possibility? Unfortunately, it's already certain the Devils don't get any compensation from this.

BBTV Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Contrary to an earlier report, the Flyers were not officially invited to participate in the WC. The NHL is apparently moving forward with their plans sans Philadelphia, so (not that we already didn't figure on this,) it looks like Washington won the final battle with the Flyers for the spot against Boston.http://www.csnphilly.com/pages/landing_09?...&feedID=695Just reported that the Flyers are once again the front runner, ahead of Washington. The league apparently wants Washington, so they can showcase Ovechkin, but NBC wants the Flyers because they're a much bigger ratings draw, despite the lack of stars.http://www.csnphilly.com/pages/landing_09?...&feedID=704 "The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed."

You're getting in Tnak territory. As for the Thrashers, I wouldn't be expecting much overhaul in personnel. They already have a lot of young, cheap guys under contract. Since the team did well the second half of the season, ownership and Waddell will probably resist making much change, despite the team still struggling defensively. They might be more active in the trade market than the free-agency pool. Re-signing Kovalchuk and Lehtonen will likely be the team's top two priorities....
cappital92 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 George McPhee (Caps GM) said to the media that the team's heard nothing about them being in the Winter Classic. I'm not totally sold on that, but maybe they aren't going to be playing. http://www.wizardsxtra.com Is it the shoes?
NJTank Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Its about damn time Lou Lamoriello got in as a builder he turned an awful franchise into one of the bedrock teams in the NHL with three cups to boot. www.sportsecyclopedia.com For the best in sports history go to the Sports E-Cyclopedia at http://www.sportsecyclopedia.com

I'd much rather see the Caps host a Winter Classic at FedEx Field since it should be available by then.

goalieboy82 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 if there is a winter classic with the caps, it should be in dc at RFK (caps vs pens or senators which can be called the battle of the capitals). i know RFK is a bad place to have a winter classic, but the place is very loud and can rock. so long and thanks for all the fish.

BBTV Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I agree that AO is the best player, and is also my favorite to watch, but the point is (from what I'm gathering... I don't have numbers to back it up) is that people just don't watch the Caps, and the "casual" fan just doesn't care about AO - maybe because he doesn't have a marketable personality (due to language barrier or something?) The NHL obviously feels that showcasing AO is a good way to promote the game, and showing him off may get them future viewers, but NBC just cares about viewers for that one game, and for whatever reason (market size, fan base, I'm not sure) it looks like they feel that the Flyers give them that boost. Personally, I'd put the Caps in it, but I think NBC's stance is understandable.
