2010 NFL Season

Scored free tickets to the Bills in Toronto game yesterday ($225 face value....like anyone in their right mind would pay that). The capacity crowd really surprised me considering the Bills are 0'fer and the Bears are a mess. I was most likely one of thousands who were given tickets. I go to 1 or 2 games in Orchard Park per year, and this was much different, to say the least. In my estimation it was 50% People with no rooting interest at all - 35% Bears Fans - 15% Bills Fans.

Truly a crowd you'd never see in Buffalo:

- People didn't know when to cheer, when to be loud on 3rd down,

- The guy in front of me was in a Burberry pea coat and spent most of the game on his Blackberry checking his Facebook. His woman-friend was wearing 4" stilettos.

- Tons of kids under the age of 10 (The Ralph is no place for a kid)

This experiment has truly been a disaster. I hope and pray Toronto never gets an NFL franchise. On the bright side, I also have tickets to this weeks game vs. the Lions. A real, true Bills game with tailgating, rowdy fans, open-air stadium, and with a little luck, our first W.

The Packers have announced that Al Harris has been released.

The play of Tremon Williams was probably the precursor to this move. Al you will be missed and will be remember most fondly for this one play you made on a Sunday afternoon in January.

Sorry Hawk fans.

Hasselbeck: We want the Ball and we're gonna score!

Al Harris: In the words of Lee Corso, Not so Fast Sweetheart.

Channing Crowder sounds like a little bitch.

It's one thing when great players run their mouths. They've earned that. Crowder's a mediocre player who talks like he's Ray Lewis in his prime.

Not only that, but he also often reveals his ignorance while doing so. How can anyone not tell the difference between Hellen Keller and Anne Frank?

Stations out of Dallas: Wade Phillips fired. Jason Garrett promoted.

Yet I have the feeling Garrett will be gone by the end of the season

Well, Garrett was dubbed "head coach in training" when he was hire before Wade. Here's your chance, big guy! :D

Why did you bring that nightmarish memory back... Why? It still hurts.

Via Jay Glazer's twitter... Stations out of Dallas: Wade Phillips fired. Jason Garrett promoted.

"Taking a bad thing and making it worse."

/Didn't Cowboys fans want Garrett's arse canned more than Phillips'?

The hiring of Garrett happened pretty sudden. I certainly hope Jerry followed the "Rooney Rule"....

I don't think the Rooney Rule applies to interim hires.

I'm not sure I understand this seeing how the Packers always seem to have injury problems in the secondary, but most of the moves Ted Thompson makes only make sense in hindsight. Still sad to see Al Harris go. He'll probably end up in Minnesota like everyone else the Packers don't want anymore.

As a fellow Seahawks fan, I would consider the playoff loss to the Rams the next year, Super Bowl 40, or the performance yesterday MUCH more nightmarish.

Two words, Dustin. "Dan McGwire".

Correct, it doesn't apply to the interim in-season hire, it only applies to a hire made after the season ends. Ray Sherman will be interviewed after the season to satisfy the rule.

Actually, isn't there an exception that they don't have to interview a minority candidate if they know Garrett is their choice? If Garrett finishes the season strong or looks like he has potential, I can see them just taking the interim tag off.

Wade Phillips was coach much longer than I ever expected. I thought he'd have the job one season, two max. I thought he was just staying until Garrett was ready to take over. I'm wondering why it took so long.

Not according to DMN's Todd Archer.

Here's the league's language regarding in-season coaching moves for teams:

"Finally, for a range of reasons, we strongly question the value of head coaching changes during the season. However, if a coaching change is made during the season, the club may name an interim coach from its existing coaching staff for the remainder of the season without going through a formal interviewing process. However, the club must follow the mandatory interviewing process in choosing a new permanent head coach, unless the club had concluded a prior contractual agreement with a member of its coaching staff to become the club's head coach and this contractual agreement had been filed with the League Office at the time it was signed."

Garrett does not have such a provision in his contract.
