Where do you get your information?

Not trying to be the ultra mysterious poster who is vague and annoying, but I really can't say where. Sorry. You can trust it though.

Fair enough. You'll have to forgive me if I remain skeptical however after all we heard about the Padres changing their uniforms and logo drastically after last season only to have that end up being false. It's nothing personal.

Unless I'm mistaken, I believe Showtime is one of our CCSLC insiders that drops in and confirms the changes to come without actually leaking it. I trust that what he's saying is accurate.

As for the Padres, I like the jersey Gothamite trots out in these threads regularly. Always like seeing it, because it shows that brown and gold can be done without the overkill of the '70s and '80s set.

If they don't go with that, then I also am a fan of the late '80s look. I love the brown and orange, especially the brownish roads with pinstripes. (Two guilty pleasures in one -- road pinstripes and non-gray road.) Love those caps and considered buying one often. Probably the reason to this day I think brown and red would look great for the Cubs (and agree with whoever proposes it here for the Indians - admiral?)

Anyway, brown can be done well, and ultimately, San Diego should be the one to do it. The Padres could own it.

EDIT: On a side note MLB Network just showed Orlando Hudson getting injured, and the Padres and Mariners are both wearing '80s throwbacks. 1984 road browns for the Pads.

Well if he's an insider, I apologize for questioning him. Just wanted to know his sources, please accept my apologies Showtime.

The Padres look like they're wearing pullovers so it would technically be the 1981-1983 road uniforms.

Whatever they are specifically they make me want to gouge my eyes out with a wooden spoon.

Little dramatic, but yeah, we get it - you hate the colors :)

Well somebody who'd actually have to live with the monstrosities you guys keep suggesting has to keep it in perspective for you guys ;)

The admiral said is best. The kit they have now is a great kit for the real world.

I live in San Diego. Been a Padres fan all my life. I happen to like the brown and gold scheme if done correctly.

I think the current set is very boring. If they keep the navy blue scheme I would like them to incorporate red, similar to their 60s scheme including a white/red SD on the cap. I also really like the old style "SD" (smaller) they used through the 60s - mid 80s. Not a fan of the bigger "D" they went to in 85.

I do agree with you strongly on one point - pick an identity that can be kept long-term and stick to it. Let's build a little tradition.

I could definitely get behind adding the old PCL red to the navy and white. Hell with the Padres deep ties to the military a navy, white and red color scheme would be very appropriate. And the smaller SD wouldn't bother me either. But regardless of what Moorad ultimately picks for love of God make it look good and stick with it for good.

Speaking as someone who grew up in San Diego, I simply don't see navy and red as San Diego colors. Granted there is the large military presence but you simply do not see a lot of navy and red colors anywhere in the city.

1. Best is to match to the mascot, Padre, and their colors.

2. Second best would be to come up with colors that one would see in San Diego. They have kind of tried this with the different blues and sand.

3. Lastly, and the least successful solution, would be to further disconnect and make them colors of the military and have nothing to do with the city and the mascot.

If not the preferred brown, can't some one at least incorporate the very cool surf design color pallets into the mix. Navy and red? No.

I'd be interested in knowing too. Sounds very certain for someone who doesn't know of the "exact change".

No disrespect intended though, just sounds like strong speculation, like the rest of us.

Well, that isn't how it works. At this point, you know what is being changed, but not what the specific change is.

For instance, a hypothetical:

Canucks are changing their home uniform, logo, and secondary logo. You know that much, but you wouldn't have seen the new logo or uniforms...yet.

I understand why it might be considered speculation. Not a problem.

There was also one other source aside from Showtime. We also got some anonymous team official (in Tucson Padres Changes discussion) mention that they are actively trying to incorporate elements from the past into the current design. The mention was of the PCL Padres and the rounded 80's Padres, but nothing specific.

Go Astros!

Go Texans!

Go Rockets!

Go Javelinas!

Haven't posted in a few years (long-time lurker, full-time stalker). I was at the team store last month and got a Padres military shirt to support the troops, and I noticed an almost-identical logo is being used on the Padres' newly-launched military site: My link The logo's pretty sharp, and adding red won't be that drastic of a change.

Then again, it seemed at least half the merchandise in the Padres' team store was brown and gold throwbacks. So maybe that's the route they'll go down.

This is a bit of a bump, but didn't someone say that the Padres organization was considering an old PCL-based identity, with red and navy as the colors next year? I vaguely remember something about that being talked about, and if it's true, are there any links to that?

If this rumor has any truth it is such a shame. There are way too many red and blue teams in the MLB already, and the Padres have history in brown and yellow, which are unique colors that the Padres should embrace IMO.

Agreed, every time.

Brown and gold are too good a combo for the Padres not to use.

Especially since its the colors worn by the Friar Monks

usually I would argue that you don't necessarily need to match the team colors to the actual colors of the mascot...but in THIS case I think its very necessary for them to do so. Its just too perfect to not use the brown and gold. I hope they get to their senses and get rid of the navy and what ever the hell you call that other color...sand? tan????

Ooh yay another navy and red team, just what Major League Baseball needs <_<

If they do switch to navy and red, the Padres should be contracted.

There were two sources. I think one was the article that started the thread and the other was something a beat writer said when discussing the potential changes for 2012. He said it in a mailbag or on Twitter. I believe it got linked in the 2012 MLB CHanges thread.

Better not be the Friar, or more than a minor tweak to him. He's the only constant in the club's consistently inconsistent æsthetic history.

I'm a padres fan and it hurts me to say it but the only thing consistent with the padres is losing
