Hot Stove: MLB Offseason Thread

Mike Illiitch is an imbecile. Once again, after the market had mostly dried up for a top free agent, Illitch comes in to bail out Boras by offering far more in money and years than anyone else was willing to. I mean, maybe the Tigers are in a position where they essentially can spend whatever they want, but that is a horrible deal. Once again the Tigers bid against themselves, just as with Ivan Roidriguez in 2004 and Ordonez in 2005. Prince probably wasn't getting more than 6 years (7 tops) and $140 from other teams, yet the Tigers come in at 9/$214. Unbelievable.

Sorry we have an owner that wants to win before he passes... That contract was the only way Prince would come here, and with V-Mart going down for most of 2012, he stepped up, went balls out, and made it happen.

Prince Fielder signing with the Tigers was completly shocking to me in that he was going to the Nats. I think one reason is that the injury of Victor Martinez caused him to sign with them. I think the AL might be a six team race for the pennant with the Angels, Rangers, Tigers, Yankees, Rays, and Red Sox all in it. I thought the deal was far too much. I thought Prince was going to sign a 3yr deal. 2012 is a very promising year for Motown fans especially with the Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings are improving a lot. About starting rotations in the AL, the top 3 are the Angels, Rays, and Yanks with Tampa Bay #1 due to Shields, Price, Hellickson, and Moore. I think these four could win 15 games easily and get them to the postseason again. My Division Champ. predictions: AL West- Angels; AL Central: Tigers; AL East: Tampa Bay (slightly); AL Wildcard: Rangers over Yanks; NL West: Dbacks; NL Central: Cubs; NL East: Phillies; NL Wildcard: Marlins over Braves.

I'd like to hear this one explained. Is everyone else in the central THAT bad?

Good for the Tigers... but 9 years with no opt-outs? Ouch. It had better work out for them quickly, or else they'll have Alfonso Soriano on their hands.

Adjusted your post.

So the speculation is that Cabrera will be going to third.

Yikes. The Tigers might be in the running for the worst defensive team of all time. Fielder is not a good 1B, Peralta is terrible, Cabrera was even WORSE at 1B and is going to adjust to the other side of the infield, and their corner OFs have absolutely no speed.

One other thing... Comerica is DEATH on LH power hitters. He's going from a ballpark with a 118 HR factor for lefties... to 88.

Just when I thought nobody could be dumber than the Angels with that Pujols deal, the Tigers come in and blow them out of the water. 9 years, no opt out clause, for Prince Fielder?!?! That's laughably bad.

Except getting more money and very fat. At least Soriano can still run. Princey at age 36 aint gonna be pretty.

Pretty much, but it'd be comparable in terms of bad contract.

Jhonny Peralta had a gold glove caliber season last year, Miggy is getting in shape. I'm only worried with Prince.

He did warn us he'd be posting random crap.

If Cabrera moves to third, the Tigers would give a literal meaning to "anchoring the corners".

Cubs Zubaz? Double fail.

Yeah but check the matching shirt, well played Prince.

a friggin GIANTS zubaz shirt with Cubs zubaz pants, and I'm pretty sure he's wearing unlaced cobra jr. high tops.

2013, with Victor Martinez back for the Tigers...

Martinez

Cabrera

Fielder

^Scary Lineup

they will never be on the same field. martinez's days as a catcher are over. someone will be dealt.

Ahh, didn't even think about that. I'm probably late to the party with this: Is Fielder going to be the Tiger's DH or is he slated to play first base?
