2012 NFL Offseason Thread

Ray Lewis is going to be back for his 18th season in 2012, all but one season with the Ravens. (Stupid rules about team histories, but that's a story for another time.)

He didn't play for Cleveland.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

Ah yes, (not my cousin) Aaron Brooks.

But...didn't he spend just his rookie season in Green Bay, third string behind Hasselbeck at the time? And correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Aaron also set some records for the Saints as a starter?

(Not saying the guy was all-world--neither was/is Matt Hasselbeck--but he was pretty steady for the few years he was in New Orleans, no?)

Yes on all counts. And he did lead the Saints to their first playoff victory. Sadly, all he accomplished gets lost in visions of him yukking it up with teammates on the sidelines with the Saints down 20 or after throwing picks or that awful backwards pass.

I had no clue Kelly was even on the NFL radar!

....and yes, there is probably "rat".

They discussed this on a radio show the other day, that any college coaches who end up in the NFL at this time of year will seem like a bolt from the blue because of the secrecy required. Even a rumor that the coach is considering leaving would destroy recruiting efforts.

As a Bucs fan, and as someone who likes Oregon and the way they play, I like it. He'll throw blows with Legarrett :P

I LOL'd at that, thanks. :D

So Jim Tressell is in the running for the Colts HC job?

That would be an unmitigated disaster for the Colts. Tressell isn't the kind of schemer that works in the NFL. He worked in college because you can recruit in college with coeds and boosters.

Jay Cutler knocked up Cavallari. Thankfully the baby will be born just in time for the first couple weeks of the 2012 season. Great timing, Jay.

Well, he isn't quite the quarterback Tom Brady is, but he will now be tied with him in the all-important "bastards fathered" column.

Local radio stations here in Tampa are reporting that Chip Kelly has told the Bucs no. More news as the day goes on I'm sure.

Considering that the last report I read before falling asleep last night was that all they still needed to work out was how much he was going to get paid, I'm positive Malcolm Glazer Just cheaped his way out of a coach. And considering their absolute refusal to dip into the free agent market despite having more cap room than Barry Bonds, and considering the huge amount of debt that the Glazers are in because of their stupid soccer team, I'm convinced that this team is going to be run much like the Oakland A's until Glazer either sells off the team or gets it yanked out from underneath him. If they get anyone desirable to coach there it would be shocking.

I don't like the D Bags. I lost a bet to Gary and have to keep it up till opening day. Trust me, it stings every time I see it.

edit:

Bears GM search is officially down to Phil Emery (chiefs) and Jason Licht (patriots).

Also Mike Tice won't interview with the Raiders for their head coaching job.

See, that's why you shouldn't have gone nuts over the "fact" that they were going to hire Tim Ruskell.

When it comes to the Chicago Bears, I've been conditioned to assume they pull off something idiotic or counter-intuitive to what common logic would dictate.

Now official: Oakland Raiders are hiring former Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen as head coach. Deal done.

And this guy is an upgrade from Hue Jackson HOW?

Only in Oakland.

same. I thought they would hire Ruskell too....worst hire they could make so I'd leave it to the bears ownership to do it

Raiders fans: Thank your lucky stars that Josh McPowertrip McDaniels wasn't hired as the new head coach.*

*Thankfully, he's going to be a coordinator for the Patriots.

So much for the Raiders doing things differently from now on. Same old Raiders!

I guess the AFC Worst is now between the Chiefs and Broncos, as we all know Spanos, Norv, and AJ are too clueless to seize the opportunity of another weak division.

I think the last Bronco game got blacked out in Oakland....

I saw, I came, I left.

More like same old Broncos.

Next season will be the 7th consecutive year DEN will have a new defensive coordinator.
