Best White Uniforms in Sports

The Kings' switch was BFBS in all but name.

Yes, but I just don't see it in the same light as when the Mets added black or when the Dallas Stars switched to black. I kind of view the Kings as starting the bandwagon as opposed to jumping on one. I know that the Raiders had similar colors but it just didn't feel the same as when they went ALL black. Probably not any better but for some reason I give them a pass for it.

Regardless of whether they started it or jumped on an existing bandwagon, it's still just BFBS. There was no good and/or legitimate reason for the Kings to make the change to black. There never is one when it comes to BFBS.

We agree to disagree then. I don't see it the same way in this case. I think there is something to be said for being a trend setter as opposed to trying not to miss the trend.

I tend to agree. No one gets on the Sharks' case for wearing teal, but the Pistons were rightfully derided for going with it.

I'm not denying the significance of the Kings' change to black, I just don't happen to like those uniforms. The Kings ought to be a purple team.

The Kings were made relevant when Gretzky showed up in '88 and the switch over to black and silver happened. They made it to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in 1993 wearing black and silver. And they won their first Stanley Cup in 2012 wearing black and silver. This team's best moments have been in those colours.

I mean I know that doesn't account for personal taste, and that's all well and good, but I don't think the Kings "ought to be a purple team." The years they've worn purple have been marred by bad attendance, a terrible on-ice product, and overall irrelevance. In black and silver they've been a premier NHL team.

^ That Kings look is simply gorgeous. God, I miss that look! Especially when it is being worn by The Great One! :)

Am I the only one who thinks that look has become incredibly overrated? Give me the 1980-88 uniforms over the Raider ripoffs any day of the week.

You mean the Flyers' ripoffs?

Flyers' ripoffs? I never saw that in these as they came out when the Flyers still had the relatively narrow stripe pattern like they have now. If anything the later Flyers jersey ripped these off.

The Flyers still owned the "curved full length yoke" look though. When the Flyers switched to that look in 1982, ripoff or not, it looked like a natural evolution of their established uniform design. When the Kings switched to that look in 1980, after having previous rocked very traditional striping patterns since their inception, it came off as something out of left field. Even though the Flyers went to the design two years later I still view it as the Kings ripping off the Flyers because despite having the design first it was still a very Flyers-esque design.

Also the Kings had it for eight years and ditched it. The Flyers sufficiently made the look their own by rocking it for twenty-five years.

Well said - for the Flyers it was an evolution; it's just that "rip-off" doesn't really fit when another team has it first. Evocative of the Flyers - yes of course. Also I viewed it as Jerry Buss trying to make the Kings look even more Laker-like since those came in for the first full season after he purchased the Lakers, Kings, and the Forum from Jack Kent Cooke. I could be wrong on that - did Buss sell out his share of the Kings immediately to McNall and the other partners or was he the senior partner for a few seasons before he decided to concentrate on the Lakers?

With apologies to pretty much every other white uni the Bucks have ever worn, all have been pretty good, none has been better...

I'm a fan, too. But personally, I liked the first version of the green rainbow even a little better, which still included red.

Best white uniform vs. Worst state themed uniform

No because when the Irish came to Ireland and first came in contact with the leprechaun people, they didn't take their land away and force them to move west. Instead, the two groups learned to assimilate peacefully. However, certain tribes of the leprechaun refused to taint the pure blood and moved north into the forests of Ireland, only to be seen rarely, usually at the same time of a rainbows appearance and occasionally at the factories of Lucky Charms.

There should be a homer rule for these "favorite uniform" threads. It defeats the purpose and now we have 11 pages of people posting their favorite teams.

What do you expect? Most people are going to be partial to their favorite teams uniforms. Especially if those teams have a storied look, or have kept the same general unis for a long time.

I do get what you're saying, but it's not like we're curing cancer here. So many of these threads turn into pissing matches about who can complain the most.

After seeing the Bucks back in green and red for a few years now, I have to say it's not that great of a combo, and the double greens were the best uniforms they ever had (though I'd take ANY version of the Irish Rainbows back in a heartbeat).

Interestingly enough... Alex English wore those "other" rainbows at the beginning of his career. The hell is with that franchise and pissing away so many great talents?

(homer post)

This goes for their current away uniform as well.

Even though I'm a huge 49ers fan, I've always loved their white uniforms over their red uniforms. It's just a clean look.

I want to hate these, but I can't...they are indeed a great choice for a solid white jersey.

EDIT: Actually I CAN hate them. The current version with the cutoff sleeve stripes are atrocious. I sincerely hope they come to their senses and fix that in some way and bring back a more classic look.

In my own defense, the Bucks are the only true "homer" pick I've posted in this one (far as my earlier picks go, Madrid and western Melbourne are about as far from home as I can get)

a couple more for the day & night

Hook em...

I hope Vandy's still wearing these...hell, switch out the black piping for red, and THIS is what the Cardinals should've done for their St. Louis alt. Throw in the early Musial-era navy cap w/red bill for good measure. Granted, this pic doesn't show the shoulder stripes all that well, but you get the idea.

There are too many uniforms in this thread that shouldn't really count IMO.

Baseball home uniforms are basically all predominantly white so this may as well be a "best baseball home uniform" thread. Same goes for Basketball white uniforms.

The hockey uniforms being posted aren't all white.

The Texas and Oregon examples are much more fitting in the spirit of the thread IMO. White helmets, jerseys and pants when that combination isn't that common.
