I honestly like the Mets black look, I do. As was said before about the Royals, would be great for an expansion team, but isnt the Mets. That said, I would love to see that hat come back as an alt, along with the black road

The Mets old black hat with the blue bill is probably my favorite hat of all time. It doesn't really work all that well for the Mets uniform wise, but as a fashion option it's great. I bought one of those back in 2010 when I visited NYC, and I still wear it more than any of my other non Giants caps.

As we go through the leadup to the World Series, I was hoping to myself that they'd wear the home pinstripes. It's their first World Series in Citi Field. It's their first pennant in over a decade. This should be an occasion that is commemorated in the most dignified way possible... then I remembered the last time they began their first World Series in about the same amount of time...

And their first game of that World Series at Shea...

Harvey usually picks the blue alt whereas the rest of the Mets starters stick with grey on the road, so I can see it going blue then grey for the first two games. Don't know how the Citi Field games will go, as Thor has gone to the hill in blue and Matz in pinstripes. If the Mets have a chance to clinch at home, though, I'm guessing they'll go pinstripes. They wore it in Game 4 of the NLDS and Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS. But then again given both of those were losses, they might ride out the blue at home as a case of superstition.

I'm starting to wonder if the league is going to (stupidly) encourage the Mets to wear their blue alts to better differentiate from the Royals because they wear blue as well.

I kind of doubt it. MLB has never really cared how often teams wear alts as long as there isn't a color clash. In a perfect world, both the Mets and Royals would only be wearing their standard homes and roads, which are arguably among the better uniforms in MLB. And while I think the Royals will follow through, as they haven't worn their alts yet, I expect at least a few games with Mets blue.

Have teams ever worn alts in the World Series?

Like, the most recent World Series (at least last year) that I have seen had both teams wearing just the regular home and road jerseys.

There's been a few. Just off the top of my head, the Rockies in 2007, Marlins in 2003, Mets in 2000, and Indians in 1997 wore alts. Actually, you could count Marlins in 1997 as well (I think) since I don't think the sleeveless vest jersey they wore in game 7 was their primary home jersey, correct?

Anyways, I feel like there's been more, but they aren't quite coming to me yet. Those are the ones that came to mind first.

Seems like it's been a while since I've seen a wordmark-batterman turtleneck. Maybe I'm just too used to seeing the Nike logo on the undershirt.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Yes the Marlins vests in game 7 of 1997 were their home alternates. Their regular homes were not vests. They wore their regular jerseys earlier in the series as well as in the NLCS v the Braves.

Well then, no reason for the Royals not to bring out their light blue jerseys.

Well...just because they can doesn't mean they should.

In every case I can think of when a team wore an alt in the World Series, the matchup (to me personally) would've been vastly improved had the team(s) wearing their alt wore their primaries instead.

For the Royals outfits, I know that regular rotations have been thrown out for the playoffs, but don't the Royals usually only wear their alternates for day games, powder at home and royal on the road? Maybe that explains why they've been missing, and likely won't be there for this series?

Makes sense, but strange that you can buy both the royal and light blue royals jerseys with the WS patch on the mlb shop, if they don´t plan to wear them.
