Watching NYCFC vs. Orlando City right now (managed to catch their season opener in Orlando, and my how the lineups have changed since then) and it's the first time I've ever seen NYCFC at home. I have to say that Yankee Stadium looks HORRIBLE as a soccer field. The barely covered baseball field, the field proportions in relation to the stands, the fact that the wall overlooks the side of the field the TV is aimed at the whole match. Even the camera angle seems to be horizontally closer than the field than a usual broadcast. I'd be glad if I never saw a soccer match in Yankee Stadium again.

EDIT: I now see I could have participated in the conversation if I had looked at the previous page ITT:

I know nothing of the situation. What's the reason they can't just play in Marlins Park?

One reason is soccer looks like garbage on baseball fields. NYCFC games are unique, but also completely weird.

And they look like garbage. NYCFC is definitely not in any kind of long term home at Yankee Stadium.

Wonder who has Messi or Ronaldo's discovery rights?

I mean it's probably the Galaxy, but it'd be interesting to see who it is.

The league will flip a coin between LA and NYC.

Mighty Ducks of Anaheim (CHL - 2018 Orr Cup Champions) Chicago Rivermen (UBA/WBL - 2014, 2015, 2017 Intercontinental Cup Champions)

King's Own Hexham FC (BIP - 2022 Saint's Cup Champions) Portland Explorers (EFL - Elite Bowl XIX Champions) Real San Diego (UPL) Red Bull Seattle (ULL - 2018, 2019, 2020 Gait Cup Champions) Vancouver Huskies (CL)

I thought it was certain Ronaldo would end up in LAFC.

Drogba's rights were acquired from Chicago by Montréal; he'll presumably sign in the next few days.

Chicago doesn't want him? Yikes.

Yankee Stadium is a very inelegant temporary solution, but it is worlds better in person than it appears on television. It surprisingly doesn't suck live.

Drogba probably doesn't want Chicago. This way Chicago gets a little cash as well.

It looks like the Fire got $250k in allocation for Drogba. They wanted him, but he only wanted to go to Montreal. From what I understand, Chicago only would've gotten $50k in allocation if they didn't actually try to sign Drogba.

Montreal isn't a whole lot better, unless the francophone thing is a factor.

Yeah, the French factor is what I've heard had Drogba interested in playing in Montreal.

If you have the choice to spend part of your professional career in Chicago or Montreal, you're probably doing something right with your life. Two of my absolute favorite cities.

I’m glad Drogba is getting the move he wants, not the one some silly “Discovery” claim would say he wants.

In a vacuum, I wish he was going to Chicago, because that team, in that city, needs to succeed, but I’ll always go for whichever move the player wants to make.

Agreed.

I've seen a lot of Fire fans online clamoring for a second team in Chicago but unfortunately that team would also have to play in Toyota Park for contractual reasons from what I've been told.

Contractually obligated to play in the same stadium? How would that work?

I will try to explain the best that I can according to what I've been told by Fire fans.

MLS has a contract with the city of Bridgeview that states that all MLS franchises in the Chicagoland area have to play in Toyota Park.

Yeah, but I don't think you'll see a second MLS team there; most of the murmuring that's been happening has been about a possible NASL team. (There's also chatter about it being called the Sting, because all NASL II teams must take on an old NASL I team name and then pretend they're the same team.)
