Personally, 2016 as a sports year has really not been one to remember from my perspective.

The Cavs/Penguins, literally the only teams I wasn't pulling for in their respective playoffs, won. Any other combo but them!

The Super Bowl set offensive football back 10 years with Denver basically winning with one side of the ball.

The NCAA tournament was frustrating in March.

Go to my first NASCAR race at Michigan- Logano basically won everything (Pole, race, most laps led) and he's far from my favorite driver.

College football had a lot of lopsided bowl games and the one great game was another Bama title.

Indians/Dodgers would be the cherry on top of what has been a sports year to forget.

The Cubs (no disrespect, Toronto, but I don't think it's gonna be 2004 all over again) are my last hope.

Fair enough. FWIW, I think everyone outside Cleveland and Toronto wants the Cubs to win. I'm not sure where LA stands on...well...anything when it comes to sports.

I've never even been to Cleveland or Toronto, so I guess I am "outside" those two, yet I want one of them to beat the Cubs in the Series (assuming Chicago makes it there). Only thing saving the Cubs for me right now is they're playing the Dodgers, a team I really despise). Never had any love for the Cubs, generally for me to root for them, they have to play a team I really dislike, ala the Dodgers...

And St. Louis and Milwaukee and South Chicago.

I want the Cubs to win the World Series for two reasons:

1. Obviously, "the drought".  It's nearly 110 years.  Always neat to see something new in sports.

2. I want Steve Bartman taken off the hook.  He doesn't deserve the shee-ot he's been through for nearly 15 years.  His "crime" was attending a baseball game and doing what every baseball fan does when a ball is coming their way.  He can't be on social media, he can't be out in the public eye without worrying about some loony fan recognizing him and going overboard with verbal/physical abuse.

I don't entirely get why people would dread and not watch a LAD-CLE matchup. I guess I can understand it with the Dodgers (because LA and all), but what about the Indians? The Cubs aren't the only team that has had a long title drought.

Cleveland's my second sports town kinda, (I guess Ohio as a whole since I wouldn't mind teams like the Bengals & Beej making runs in addition to the sorry-ass Browns, my Bears companion for worst run team in sports), so I would love to see the Indians win a World Series.  It would suck if it was at the expense of the Cubs, and I'd probably pollute this thread with what a bunch of pricks the Indians are, should that happen, but in the long scope?  I'd be glad they won and happy for their fans.

The Dodgers I simply hate because the Cubs can never seem to beat them in the playoffs in my Cub fan lifetime (since 98, which isn't saying much).  Plus I think LA sports fans are overall indifferent to their team's success outside of the Lakers, but that's coming from a jaded midwesterner who is jealous of California's lovely, strangely remote culture.

I don't mind the Dodgers, but this is upsetting because the Giants were supposed to be the worst-case scenario, this year's version of last year's Mets, another team with dynamite pitching and timely hitting. And they certainly seemed that way until the Cubs pulled it out right at the end. The Dodgers, even with Kershaw, were supposed to be beatable.

What this feels like is the last Dodgers-Cubs series from 2008, where we all thought the Cubs were the better team based on the regular season, but then it became painfully clear that the Cubs were only good because they drew lots of walks from #4/#5 starters on 70-win teams. Same thing now. Now that they can't do that anymore, they're just standing around getting struck out.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

The Cubs offense picked the wrong time to slump. There's probably other 3-4 game stretches in the season where the Cubs offense has looked very bad (it's the case for every team), but they've fallen into a black hole. Granted, that tends to happen against top-of-the-line pitchers.

Somewhat related observation: it's really easy to underrate Rich Hill. In 20 starts this season, he carried a 2.12 ERA, a 2.39 FIP, a 0.997 WHIP, and struck out more than a batter per inning. He pretty much had a career year at the age of 36. Not surprised he looked unhittable - he's had a great year, overall.

I could understand the concern Cubs fans have, but again, this team managed to get clutch hitting in one form or another against the Giants. There's still a very good chance they can adjust their strategies and make this series a best of three, which is essentially a coin flip. They aren't like the Jays, who have been outplayed in three out of four games so far. Now if they lose tonight, then some full blown panicking can commence.

"And then I remember to relax, and stop trying to hold on to it, and then it flows through me like rain and I can't feel anything but gratitude for every single moment of my stupid little life... You have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sure. But don't worry... you will someday."

For the love of God, Cubs. Don't make me have to root for the freaking Indians in the World Series.

Well, I guess there's only one thing left to do....

Charlie Sheen himself was a pitcher on his high school's baseball team. At the time of filming Major League, his own fastball topped out at 85 miles per hour. (In 2011, Sheen said that he had used steroids for nearly two months to improve his athletic abilities in the film.

:D good old Charlie
