MLB:

15 teams per league, 5 per division.

Play 14 league opponents 9x apiece; also play one designated interleague rival 9x. (135 total)

Featured interleague series marketed as "Interleague Series of the Week".

Play the rest of the designated interleague rival's division 3x each, as well as one of the other two divisions 3x each. (27 total) Result is a 162-game schedule, with each team getting to play each other team over the course of 2 seasons.

NHL/NBA: 6 divisions; 5 teams each.

Play division rivals 8x; everyone else twice. (82 games total)

If you can think of the proper names of Divisions 1,2,3 based on the geographic areas in the Eastern Conference if would be appreciated...

The NFL has a few alignment issues, which I know people can agree on. I know the NFL likes to keep rivalries in tact, but I think by realigning a few teams to make the division more regional could help teams with travel costs and such. Most of all, I would just like to see a consistent base.

In my changes, I made 3 in the AFC, and 2 in the NFC

I think the biggest change would be the Dallas Cowboys. Obviously they have huge rivalries within the NFC East, but being in the division makes absolutely no sense. The Houston Texans are in the NFC South, as should be the Cowboys. Both Texas teams need to be consistent. This same concept works with the Miami Dolphins. Tampa Bay is in the NFC South, but the Dolphins in the East? Yes, Miami is East, but definitely sits better South, in my eyes. Below you can see more changes. I believe that this makes the divisions regionally better.

What do you all think? What changes would you make?

AFC East

New England Patriots

New York Jets

Buffalo Bills

Baltimore Ravens (moved from North)

AFC North

Cleveland Browns

Pittsburgh Steelers

Indianapolis Colts (moved from South)

Cincinnati Bengals

AFC South

Miami Dolphins (moved from East)

Houston Texans

Tennessee Titans

Jacksonville Jaguars

AFC West

Kansas City Chiefs

San Diego Chargers

Oakland Raiders

Denver Broncos

______________________

NFC East

Philadelphia Eagles

New York Giants

Washington Redskins

Carolina Panthers (moved from South)

NFC North

Green Bay Packers

Chicago Bears

Detroit Lions

Minnesota Vikings

NFC South

New Orleans Saints

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Atlanta Falcons

Dallas Cowboys (moved from East)

NFC West

St. Louis Rams

San Francisco 49ers

Seattle Seahawks

Arizona Cardinals

CHIEFS - BLUE JACKETS - CARDINALS

I liked when baseball had only four divisions instead of six. But if they were to go back to that, one division in each league would have to have six franchises. But, unlike the 1969-1993 system which only had a LCS, I'd still have a LDS: the weaker wild card would play the higher division winner and the stronger wild card would play the weaker division winner. Both rounds would be best of seven.

The reason I liked the older setup was because it seemed to create better pennant/playoff races.

NHL Realignment: Detroit Red Wings Could Land In NHL's Southeast Division

http://tampabay.sbnation.com/tampa-bay-lightning/2011/10/11/2484688/nhl-realignment-detroit-red-wings-could-land-in-nhls-southeast

I hope the NHL does more than simply swap Detroit and Winnipeg because teams like Minnesota and Dallas deserve much better. Minnesota should be playing teams like Chicago, St. Louis and Winnipeg. It's not fun as a fan when a majority of the games do not start until after 9pm local time.

I hope the NHL is smarter than this and makes several other moves. The future of Phoenix is a big question mark beyond 2011-2012 but there needs to be more to the solution than simply placing Detroit in the Southeast and Winnipeg in the Central.

I'm sure this has been done already...

NHL realignment

Atlantic and Northeast remain the same.

Southeast

WSH

TB

FLA

CAR

NSH

Central

DET

CLM

CHI

STL

DAL

Northwest

MIN

WPG

COL

EDM

CAL

Pacific

LA

ANA

PHX

SJ

VAN

Recap:

* Nashville moves to the Southeast

* Winnipeg moves to the Northwest

* Dallas goes to the Central

* Vancouver moves to the Pacific

I feel it makes the most geographic sense; solving most of the timezone issues. Would Vancouver be OK with moving away from the other Canadian teams? Obviously Minnesota would want to be in the Central, but at least they get a natural rival in the Jets. Aside from Detroit crying about not being in the east, is there any reason this couldn't work?

Guys, NHL realignment for Winnipeg isn't that hard. Just put Winnipeg in the Northwest, move Minnesota up to the Central, and scoot Nashville on over to the Southwest. Bada bing.

But eventually I think Phoenix should move to Québec City, so here's how I imagine the NHL with a NHC (National Hockey Conference) and an AHC (American Hockey Conference):

AHC

AHC East

New Jersey Devils

New York Rangers

Philadelphia Flyers

Florida Panthers

Québec Nordiques (or whatever they are named)

AHC Central

Nashville Predators

Columbus Blue Jackets

Pittsburgh Penguins

St. Louis Blues

Carolina Hurricanes

AHC West

Anaheim Ducks

Vancouver Canucks

San Jose Sharks

Winnipeg Jets

Minnesota Wild

NHC

NHC East

Washington Capitals

Tampa Bay Lightning

Boston Bruins

Montréal Canadiens

New York Islanders

NHC Central

Buffalo Sabres

Toronto Maple Leafs

Chicago Blackhawks

Detroit Red Wings

Ottawa Senators

NHC West

Los Angeles Kings

Dallas Stars

Calgary Flames

Edmonton Oilers

Colorado Avalanche

While "American" can mean "North American", I doubt that the Nordiques, Canucks, and Jets would endorse that conference name.

Surprised nobody posted what was talked about on the latest Hotstove on Saturday night.

a. PHI NYR NYI NJD | WSH CAR TBL FLA

b. TOR OTT MTL (DET/CBJ) PIT BUF BOS

-------------------------------------------------

c. WPG MIN CHI (DET/CBJ) DAL NSH STL

d. VAN EDM CGY COL | ANA LAK SJS PHX

So I took that and figured out the math for it, based on an 82-game schedule.

8-team divisions play 44 games out-of-division.

In-division, 38 games: 4 teams 5 times, 3 teams 6 times.

7-team divisions play 46 games out-of-division.

In division, 36 games (6 per opponent).

I'd let both DET and CBJ go to the East. Yes that gives us 16 East and 14 West. But I'd drop East and West during the regular season and just have four divisions.

Then in the playoffs the top 16 teams qualify.

The 8 Westernmost teams by longitude are seeded 1-8 in the Western Conference Bracket.

The 8 Easternmost teams by longitude are seeded 1-8 in the Eastern Conference Bracket.

So yes teams like my Blues could play in the East playoffs one year and the West the next.

-Division winners cannot be seeded lower than 4th.

-If a playoff series is played between two teams 2 or more time zones apart, the series is played in a 2-3-2 format.

The only negative I could see is playoff rivalries being diminished if teams like CHI, STL, MIN are bounced back and forth between conference playoff brackets based on where the good teams are clustered in a given year. It would then be less likely to see rematches in the playoffs as often. However, most everyone is excited for playoff games regardless of who we're playing.

A workaround for this could be to reseed the teams as one group when we get down to four (the current conference final round). That would make it possible for any two teams to face-off in the semifinal or final. I imagine a Boston-Montreal final would be pretty awesome.

Oh for :censored: s sake. That amusement park in Houston is far more an AL stadium than an NL stadium anyway.

Because one baseball player says that does not mean it makes sense. He's basing it off not wanting Houston to go. Milwaukee switching is the next worse move after Houston. Colorado and Arizona are the only ones that make sense.

Got me thinking with all the Houston to AL talk, thought Id take my stab at this. Lets just say there is expansion here in a couple years adding Portland and Memphis into the league.

Based my divisions on what he NFL has, with the same playoff format as well. Division winners and 2 wild card teams advance to the playoffs. So what does everyone think?

AL East

New York Yankees

Boston Red Sox

Baltimore Orioles

Clevland Indians

AL West

Los Angeles Angels

Oakland A's

Seattle Mariners

Portland

AL North

Toronto Blue Jays

Detroit Tigers

Chicago White Sox

Minnesota Twins

AL South

Tampa Rays

Texas Rangers

Kansas City Royals

Memphis

NL East

New York Mets

Philadelphia Phillies

Washington Nationals

Pittsburgh Pirates

NL West

Arizona Diamondbacks

San Francisco Giants

Los Angeles Dodgers

San Diego Padres

NL North

Chicago Cubs

Milwaukee Brewers

Colorado Rockies

Cincinnati Reds

NL South

Atlanta Braves

St Louis Cardinals

Houston Astros

Seperating the Cardinals and Cubs is kind of a no-no. And Memphis a little further down on the expansion list.

Oh I know, with the Cards being smack dab in the middle of the country, they were honestly the last team I placed into a division. It was all just for kicks anyway.

It was either Memphis or Carolina for expansion, like I said, all in fun

I'd put the Reds in the NL South and have Charlotte and Portland as expansion teams.
