I mean, I sort of get it, but I just think finding a way to bring a multi purpose arena for both teams to the SoDo area, or just south of it, would have been a better solution. 

 

 

But, that whole pesky public funding thing. Can’t knock Seattle for that I guess. They already paid for two stadiums.

I don't think there's ever been as great a turnaround in ownership of a company that from Donald Sterling to Steve Ballmer. From a racist slumlord who refused to pay coaches he fired to a guy who's building his own stadium and got the top free agent on the market. It's truly been the Summer of Ballz.

The SODO arena wasn't a problem with public funding, but instead the Port of Seattle (and the Mariners) putting a lot of pressure on Seattle City Council to veto a street vacation (an alley used for parking by about 20 cars a day) needed for the entire arena parcel to be developed. The Port said that alley was critical for its operations (it wasn't) and the Council said the Port is critical for Seattle employment (debatable).

 

Then some guys got mad on the internet and the women members of the Council -- the 5 "no" votes on the vacation -- said any and all opposition to their vote was based on sexism and nothing else.

 

It sucked. But at least we'll have hockey, I guess.

The WNBA will test the ability to swap players in and out during gameplay as opposed to waiting for a stoppage. The players will have to tap out/in at the sideline and can only do it on offense.

That's pretty awesome. Pro sports need more elements from pro wrestling. Maybe Finals games can take place in a steel cage?

Westbrook and Harden are reunited again. If they could figure out how to share the load they could be dangerous. They're very similar players though and seemingly want to play the same way. I'm not sure how they're going to take turns.

If they make Westbrook anything other than the point, it can work. He's too aggressive to run the point in a traditional manner.

We need more wrestling-style promos as well. Richard Sherman when he was talking about how mediocre Crabtree was was absolute gold. What if the next season before their next matchup Sherman and Crabtree had a stare down and Sherman got put through a table? Unfortunately too much of society is filled with whiny babies who think that's undignified.

my biggest issue with boston is that Kemba and Kanter are both very subpar defenders. when your center and pg can't defend that's the textbook recipe for giving up HELLA points in the paint. they're gonna score a lot but that defense is gonna need work.

Meanwhile, I'm more concerned with how today became an infomercial about Carmelo Anthony on ESPN. Melo made Griffin more grateful in 24 hours.

I understand the sentiment, though. 

 

Maybe he shouldn't have outright said it like that, but it's not really that far off of what everyone already expected was the case with Lebron, anyway. Even if it was rather foolish for them to go in that direction, I feel that there was a certain desire to try and build things in Cleveland free from the previous stink of Lebron, and quite a few people had bought into that idea. When Lebron came back, it basically put all of that on ice, and I can at least understand how it would've been disappointing to not get to see that come to fruition. That seems to be at least a part of what Kyrie's problem was, too. 

 

I find it a bit difficult to fault someone for the sentiment of wanting to build their legacy out of the shadow of some other legend. Lebron coming back to Cleveland got the Cavs what they most desired, and that's certainly really important. But I can at least understand how some of that may feel a bit hollow for Griffin (and even Kyrie). Sometimes it's more fulfilling to crash and burn and fail miserably on your own than to succeed while being propped up by someone else's talent.
