How will the Washington NFL Team be listed moving foward, when mentionning past Super Bowl Champions?

The Toronto Maple Leafs sell banners like this that include Cups won while they were known as the Arenas and St. Pats. It's not a big deal.

@BringBackTheVet is right though, that officially lists will probably refer to the '82, '87, and '91 Super Bowl Champions as the "Washington Washington Football Team."

Official records and fan merch are two different things entirely.

I still want to call them the Washington Football Team. It's not the same now.

Why do you still want to use a slur?

- The Ravens didn't derive from the original Cleveland Browns

- O.J. Simpson never ran for 2,000 yards in a season

- The Washington Red Wolves won three Super Bowls in the 80s

There's nothing the NFL can't re-write!

you're reaching here.

It's where I sit.

Growing up till present day, I didn't know the racially offensive nature of the R-Word, until it was brought up in the most recent name change controversy.

It does take a while to get used to the name being removed and their logo being discontinued, but it's completely understandable and I support the Washington Football Club for making the right move, now that I know. They are keeping their colors the same, so that's one thing fans of the team and viewers watching at home will still get to have. They'll rebrand under a better name that's appropriate and people will get used to the new name.

I just really wish this team had a name. They can have generic uniforms temporarily but I just wanted a NAME. Washington Football Team is dumb. Snyder apparently already knows the name, so just tell us man. I can live with a plain uniform set for awhile, what I can't live with is potentially 2 years of this nonsensical name. What if this team makes it to the Super Bowl (HAHAHAHA) and then you have the biggest sports event ever and the team has no damn name.

So now we have only the Bears and Chiefs left as the remaining teams who understand how socks should work with dark pants.

That sucks.

You know, I'm kind of glad that NFL socks are now even higher up on the hierarchy of sports identity crimes. Why is it so hard to get that detail right?

As far as getting used to the name, that's easy enough. The hardcores might have moments where they slip (I had that a couple times singing the Arkansas State fight song), but unless you're intentionally being a jackass, people will just get used to it. The nickname is your team's least important quality.

The only instance where I've really had trouble is with the Chargers. Every time I see LAC I still think Clippers, and sometimes I refer to the football team as such. I've been able to adjust to every other relocation and re-naming without much issue, but the Football Clippers have really broken my brain. I'm not even saying that because I'm a Broncos fan, my brain is legitimately ruined because of the Chargers. It's fine though because I can just remember those three Super Bowls my favorite team has.

WHY IS REDWOLVES SO POPULAR AM I LOSING MY MIND!!??

By far the most “liked” name on social media, it is so painfully generic it hurts

My only guess is because starts with "Red" -- so Washington fans can still proudly stumble over the lyrics to "Hail to the Redskins" while only having to change one sylible to the song.

Honestly tho, I have no idea.

And ftr the name "RedTails" is just as brutal. But still, anything is better than Redskins.

While the name absolutely had to go, I will miss the overall look of the Washington Football Team. The logo I actually thought looked sort of dignified (I can’t speak for those who feel differently, though). And the white jersey burgundy pants is one of my favorite looks ever.

I mean, aren't they keeping the basics of the uniform and just stripping down the helmet? At least for the 2020 season I thought they were

I wonder if the fans will naturally kind of give them a team nickname as is the tradition in soccer?

Because the team will likely play the next 2 years as Washington FT, fans will more likely than not call them by a nickname. Unfortunately, I think it will just be the old one, out of habit.

I never thought the logo was that great. The Blackhawks do it so much better by not having a bounding device as a distraction (except when they do, which is why that "Black Hawks Chicago" vintage alt is such crap). If it's supposed to be a dream catcher, how would it be opaque in the middle and have a face on it? If it's not a dream catcher, what is it? Why do the Indian and the circle both have feathers, but different feathers? I dunno, just never did anything for me.

As I said in another thread, the compromise position on the Washington Football Team, back in the day when the discourse could brook a compromise position on the Washington Football Team, was that the logo was dignified and respectful while the name was offensive. And while I never found it undignified (shoutout Dastardly Ridleylash, we loves ya), I never felt like it had that attention-grabbing, devotion-inspiring feel that the Indian Head has with all those different colors jumping out from red/black/white, already a striking color combination (ask Jack White). To me it just kinda looked like a blob in a circle from a distance. The spear helmet was the only good iconography the team has ever had outside of its color scheme and uniform gestalt.

♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

So they don't think fans are gonna revolt over the name change ?, it's already happening, your going to see more Redskins stuff than ever, the majority of fans do not want the name changed period, I'm no Redskins fan but I live in Redskins country, fans are really pissed Snyder gave into the cancel culture, Fed Ex, Pepsi etc. from what I'm hearing from far more people than being reported, businesses too, he might need to re-think this.
