Here's a sentence I never thought I'd type in a million years...

"The San Diego Padres are skirting with the luxury tax threshold after their latest acquisition of MLB's leading hitter, 2B Adam Frazier"

We must've stepped through the looking glass.

We must've stepped through the looking glass.

It's not the size of the market, it's the size of the owner in the market.

[not disagreeing with you, just pointing out what really matters]

It's where I sit.

How close to the threshold were they after bringing in all those names in 2015?

Not very. They topped out at $110 million as I recall in 2015. The threshold back then was $189 million. Unless I'm mistaken their payroll currently is at $203 million with the threshold being $210 million this year.

The Padres winning a title would be so cool, if for no other reason then they'd be compelled to wear brown and yellow for a long, long time.

Guess they're going over the luxury tax threshold...

Hold onto your butts!

Well, so much for that.

It’s going to be hilarious when they still finish behind the Giants and get bounced in the NLDS by the Mets.

EDIT: This feels fitting

Not if the Padres don't bounce them from the Wild Card game first.

Really hoping the Orioles can pull something out of their asses to get either Trevor Story or Kris Bryant. Even if that includes shipping away Trey Mancini.

I’m over this never ending “not a rebuild even though it is, but we’re not going to say it is” bull :censored: this team pulls every single year.

Joey Votto has a home run in six straight games and 8 home runs over that stretch. His last 7 hits have been home runs.  He's going to be 38 in September.

Cubs deal Kimbrel to White Sox for Madrigal and a meh reliever.  Javy Baez is about to be dealt to the NY Mets.  Weird week for Cubs fans.

Kris Bryant to the Giants.

I’m so freakin happy. He fits like a glove, is exactly what I wanted, and didn’t cost us Bart or Wade. Can’t beat that.

And to Cubbies fans,

I don't have the kind of emotional fusion to these guys like some younger Cubs fans do who grew up with Rizzo, Bryant & co., but it was so cool watching them grow, come together, and make history.  That said, they've been all collectively inconsistent and in their own heads for a few years now, disappointing fans year after year.  We all knew it was coming, and the Cubs system is pretty much dead, so recouping something for what has only nostalgic value, really, is a plus.  My guess is Theo left so as not to be the bad guy who inevitably dismantled his own creation, and watching stuff like this reinforces that belief.

Yeah it’s worse to hang onto guys too long, especially for nostalgia. Cubs fans may be sad today, but these were the right moves.

You want the worst team in the AL to trade for guys that are going to be free agents in 3 months?
