2022 NFL regular season through Super Bowl LVII

#NFLRigged is trending near the top all night. Of course the league is not rigged, but this is clearly not a good look for them.

 

Like a player gets benched or cut for not doing their job right, refs should be sidelined or fired for the same.

JaguarGator9 on his livestream says that the NFL changes referees every week, like one lead referee will have one crew one week and another crew the next, creating inconsistencies in officiating.

I think we really did get the best teams in it this time, and I'll admit, at least there are more storylines for KC-PHI.

 

Not the matchup I wanted, but I hope it's at the very least entertaining.

Plus the rest of the league is totally confused as to how to cover Travis Kelce, leaving him open in the middle every single time.

Like last year, if they had a good O-line (or rather it wasn't injured to hell) they likely win this game. 

When Burrow had time he was great, which is why they were able to tie it once the line  got their crap together. 

 

Chiefs pass rush really made up for the fact that their passing defence is below average. 

 

Eagles have a better O-line, so they should feast on that KC passing defence. Plus Hurts can actually run, unlike Mahomes who was still clearly hobbled.

Both games were horribly officiated today. Both the Niners and Bengals ultimately have nobody but themselves to blame for their respective losses. These statements can be, and are, both true at the same time.

I don’t know man. By the strictest of interpretations this is a penalty, but it also seems like Mahomes embellished the rather minimal contact to make it look worse than it was.
 

How many other times have we seen that exact scenario but the offensive player doesn’t go down so a penalty isn’t called? It happens all the time. The sprit of the rule was to save players from taking unnecessary hard hits, not from the lightest of touches. 
 

Offenses, and QB’s specifically, already get so much protection from officials and the rulebook changes that put limitations on what defenses can do. This just seems too harsh of a penalty to end a team’s season, especially more so given the dodgy/questionable calls the Chiefs had been getting from the officials the whole 4th quarter.

 

Again, by letter of the rule, it’s a penalty (I feel deeply for Ossai who looked absolutely distraught after the game), and you can make the correct argument that Ossai should never have even touched Mahomes so the refs wouldn’t have come into play there, but all the same it’s a tough way to end a season.

I was cheering for Cincy but I didnt think the officiating was that bad.  Regarding the third down play, they showed a replay of one official clearly running onto the field calling the play dead right after the ball was snapped and before Mahomes attempted the pass because the clock was running after an incomplete pass on the previous play.  There is no legitimate argument that the play should have counted when you have an official running onto the field waving his hands above his head in the middle of it.  It wasn't handled well but the primary issue was the official saying to start the clock on his signal.  The intentional grounding was very much intentional grounding.  It wasn't in the direction nor the vicinity of the RB.  The late hit is a penalty every single time.  I do remember a weak PI call against the Bengals, though. 

 

It was par for the course as far as NFL officials goes. Nothing that egregious imo.

Mahomes didn't embellish anything, Oassai not only pushed Mahomes in the back, his foot in stride hit the bottom of Mahomes foot which sent Mahomes down. That penalty is going to be called 100% of the time at all levels of football, there's no grand conspiracy its just the Bungles being the Bungles.

I gotta admit, no one was really hyping up the Chiefs this season as much as the Bills, Bengals, Eagles, 49ers, and even the Cowboys().

 

Kansas City was arguably a relatively quiet good team.

I don't agree. Close enough to Perine to not be called most of the time - Burrow's been doing that all year without a flag. Then Mahomes does the exact same thing the next possession and they didn't get a flag. Either call it the same or don't call it. Also they missed Chris Jones hands to the face on Burrow's intentional grounding. The way you handle the extra third down botch is you don't flag a non-existent defensive holding on the do-over third down play to give them a whole new set of downs. A little make-good there for the Bengals would've been the just course of action. And you call the blocks in the back on the punt return that gave KC an extra 20 yards. 

 

Not saying it was rigged because I'm not an idiot. It's simply Hanlon's Razor in action. The Chiefs got some help in the second half that the Bengals didn't and all I'm saying is that's a bummer of an outcome.

The NFL absolutely deserves the questions it is getting about its legitimacy. Are they WWE? No. If for some reason they wanted the Texans to win the Super Bowl this year they could not have made it happen. But that doesn’t mean they don’t hedge their bets towards preferred outcomes. It seems counterintuitive, given how people will watch football, regardless of who plays. But it certainly feels like they have teams they are trying to push through. It felt like the Packers late in the season and yesterday both winning teams sure seem to be on the good side of all the controversial calls. Philadelphia didn’t even need it.
 

Bad calls happen. But when the whole game is one-sided, I am tired of hearing about how you should not let the officials beat you . You could make the argument on the questionable personal foul if the rest of the game was fair but it’s a hard argument to make with the whole game went against one team.

 

I would rather have a game like the Fail Mary game (terribly officiated, but at least terrible both ways)  than a competently officiated game that is one sided. I don’t know if it was about Mahomes’s legacy, Andy Reid, or the Kelsey brothers, but really seems like the thumb was on the scale for Kansas City. And Philly.

it does make you wonder if SF had won, would CIN v SF have been the preferred SB matchup. 
 

(I only saw the 4th q of the AFCCG so didn’t see enough to suggest that anything was unlevel, but in general I firmly believe that they tilt the field.)
