Colors are free to be trademarked, as stupid as it is. The Home Depot's shade of orange, Tiffany blue, UPS brown, and T-Mobile magenta are all trademarked. I don't believe Luv Ya Blue falls under that category, and it's likely far too late to do anything about it now. At this point, with the Titans using it so sparingly, it's just another shade of powder blue now. I'm sure the Houston rebrand would be well within their rights to use it, though I'd prefer they forge their own path in their rebrand rather than hearkening back to a past that isn't legally their own.

I love the red helmets and would absolutely be in favor of a red-heavy rebrand. No need to change the logo in my book at all; it's one of the best in any sport. They really only need a slight enhancement of what they have to be great, but if they were to go more outlandish with their rebrand, I'd be totally down for something like this: (shameless plug time once again)

This looks awesome, but let's add a navy alternate for when they play the Chiefs, Cardinals, Commanders, etc.

Speaking of Colorado...their Dark Steel Grey helmets over Black jersey & Grey pants are just a beautiful, beautiful combination.  I still can't believe the Falcons didn't do this:

Imagine the Falcons logo on that helmet.  Red accents on the uniform.  Red outlines on the numbers.  Uniform would be too similar to the better football team in Georgia, I guess:

Interestingly enough, this exact thought was posited back before the Falcons' latest rebrand was revealed, and I mocked it up in that discussion:

Added some flexibility, but yeah where they drew the lines seemed a bit of a partial measure.

Like why not broaden K/P numbers? DL numbers?

Adding 0 at this point is fine, it always looks a little goofy and I’m sure it will vary Team font to Team font.

I’ve gotten used to the numbering changes, though I think @Cujo makes a good point: I think  the numbering changes regarding who can wear 1-19 went a little too far. Maybe limit 1-19 (or 0-19) to offensive and K/P?

I also like the idea of expanding what

numbers K/P can wear—maybe allow them to use whatever  numbers are available?

I’m intrigued by a QB wearing #0–itd be kinda funny to see one on the Bills, Browns, or Eagles, if you catch my drift. 🙃

It may not happen in our lifetimes, but I could see teams (in any sport) allowing  numbers 01-09 if too many numbers get retired or become otherwise unavailable.

Just as a quick mental impression, the Lions don't necessarily feel like a team that changes their uniforms all the time, but in reality, they absolutely are. In fact, unless I'm forgetting some other team, they are tied with Jacksonville (who definitely does feel like a team that changes uniforms constantly) with the most in the NFL in this century.  Both have four official uniform changes, and unless you count alts, color rushes, and throwbacks, no one else has more than 3. And after 2024, the Lions will have 5. That FIVE in 25 years, in a league that doesn't let you change more than once every 5 years... the math already doesn't seem possible.

I actually feel like their current uniform is entirely salvageable. I'd get rid of the lettering on both sleeves, drop all occurrences of the dark gray and the white practice pants, and get a non-italicized number font, and I'd be all set.

The last one sure beats the hell out of the two with the tacked-on black trim.

I'm not sure how logical it is, but I always think of teams whose uniforms are constantly changing as poorly run, across all sports.

I don't remember seeing this but I do remember banging the drum for it at the time.   Would've been a major upgrade over what they did in the end.

While I agree the dark gray and black looks good together, I loathe that old Falcs logo and it's even worse with the red outline.

They already have the correct answer to their uniform issues with their current throwbacks.  I'd replace the old logo for the new and call it a day.  Oh, and add a black facemask.  Done.

That said, I'm not sure it would be good to have the Falcons go to the dark gray/black when the Bucs have a very similar pallette with the pewter.  They have red jerseys but their alts are black.  Not sure if that's good with both  being in the same division.

Meh.  To each their own.  Their 2009-2016 set was actually one of my favorite NFL sets.

Now the current set?  Not so much.  At all.  The uniforms loose a lot when white is dropped.

Silver helmet / pants for the Falcons makes a lot of sense and looks really good - with either version of the logo (I like the old one better, but at this point it's been ripped off by so many high schools that younger folks might actually think the Falcons are the ones ripping it off.)

Silver helmet / pants allows for both red and black jerseys, and you can still have a black or red throwback or alt helmet.

My only concern is that indoor teams look drab in gray, so it would need to be true metallic material / paint, even if it's darker and more like "steel" than silver.

The Lions haven’t changed uniforms four times. Only three. The upper left photo isn’t a “change”. The next change will be the fourth (but fifth uniform) since the 1980s. Three changes so far in 21 seasons makes the math a little easier.

The only one of these that actually feels like the Lions to me is the first one, and the one that feels the least like the Lions to me is the current set. The black in either iteration wasn’t great (but the second set with black was definitely better), but both of those kept the white elements, which IMO, is sort of the most important part of the lions set. Them removing black from the current set was a good move, but the lack of white on the stripes (both helmet and jersey), numbers, and logo outline drives me up a wall. It just doesn’t look like the lions to me, but some cheap knockoff version instead. It’s like they got rid of one problem they had (the addition of black), but replaced it with an even bigger problem (the almost complete removal of the white outline and trim elements).

All the Lions really need to do is slap the current logo on the set they used until 2002 and call it a day. Anything else, and them trying to get cute again, is going to be another huge swing and a miss.

The Lions' uniforms require a lot of idiotproofing. I've caught them in all white and all grey (angels are watchin' over me my lord). Neither should ever happen. There are some elements to their current set that I don't mind, but most NFL uniforms really need to be limited in how much mix-and-match they can allow, especially in a space as crowded as blue and grey/silver.

Agreed. There's nothing wrong with the white/silver but the white/blue might be my favorite look in the current Lions set. Not a fan of the all-blue but I'd rather have that then the all-gray or all-white options, though.

They're not bad, but the matte grey socks clash with the metallic silver helmet. Also, we don't really have a place in our mind for grey socks -- imagine the 49ers in scarlet pants and beige socks and it's just as weird.

The best thing they can do is be one of those teams like the Packers and Steelers that only switches their jersey between home and road sets and leaves everything else in place.
