They'd have to work out a whole permanent identity, including logos, uniforms, and a full brand strategy, and given that Fanatics can't even get MLB uniforms to the teams in time (and those are pre-existing designs), there's zero chance they'd be able to get stuff to NHL teams (or get merch in stores - I forget if they actually make the NHL uniforms). MLB is top of their food chain. NHL... probably close to the bottom. Just like nike doesnt actually make the MLB uniforms(made at the old majestic plant that fanatics bought), Fanatics doesnt make NHL uniforms(made at the SP plant. Which, incidently, made the jerseys since at least the reebok days). This move happening during a switchover from adidas to fanatics branding might actually help them, as new jerseys already were going to have to be made. 1 Quote Formerly known as DiePerske

bowld
Jets announced name change and had uniforms ready on time. Have to assume this whole UTAH move has been in the planning phase for longer than we know

The sale was officially announced May 31, 2011, and the name was announced at the draft on June 24. Logos were unveiled July 22, and jerseys were Sept 6. 2 Quote On September 20, 2012 at 0:50 AM, 'CS85 said: It's like watching the hellish undead creakily shuffling their way out of the flames of a liposuction clinic dumpster fire. The Jets did it in two months less time. (May 31 to Sept 6) I feel like Smith has been vocal enough that he has to have something in his back pocket. I think they follow the Jets lead and announce the name at the draft in June. 1 Quote On September 20, 2012 at 0:50 AM, 'CS85 said: It's like watching the hellish undead creakily shuffling their way out of the flames of a liposuction clinic dumpster fire. DCarp1231
Deserts and coyotes are very much a thing in Utah. Not sure why we’re expecting such a drastic identity change.

I said last page that calling them the Utah Coyutes would be clever. Especially when you consider how some people pronounce “coyote”. It is interesting how quickly an identity can be developed on such short notice.
Fowler2
Ryan Smith could've had an identity already developed behind closed doors when he made it clear that he was interested in bringing a team to SLC. It's all speculation really.

As part of the sale agreement, Alex Meruelo has 5 years to build a new arena in Phoenix and get a team back. So, this would make sense to leave the name and identity behind, especially if the new owners were planning on changing the name any ways.
