Yeah, I think the premise that they're the [insert power 5 school nickname] of college hockey is the issue. Denver's really more like a Villanova or Gonzaga just with more national titles. They're phenomenal at one sport but not at all present in the top levels of D1 at anything else, while UConn, Duke, and UNC are all power 5 schools. I'm not sure I'd trust the average fan to know what Nova or Zags' mascot despite both being hyper generic. Honestly, it really all comes down to the fact that football is the truly important sport for fan knowledge. He doesn’t necessarily want a Pittsburgh situation with identical colours, but mentions that he’d like there to be a bit of symmetry between the two He talks about the popularity of purple, mountain imagery, and mentions blue skies, so it sounds like they’re leaning to a cooler colour scheme He says the nickname bracket will be 6 or 8 options. The names Blizzard, Yetis, Venom, Outlaws, Black Diamonds, and Golden Eagles are all mentioned, with Smith saying it’s more than a 50% chance it ends up being one of those names. That with an identity based around a retro ski resort/cabin aesthetic could be pretty cool if done right. Still, Pioneers would be a boring nickname for a Rocky Mountain hockey team. Of the names picked early, I’d say Yetis and Outlaws are the ones I’d be most inclined to like. The former even has a logo ready! DJT Posted April 23 Share Posted April 23 I’m hoping the bracket includes a little mock logo of sorts but I think that’s wishful thinking. Funny fact my friend reminded me of. We would draw logos and nba jerseys when we were little and re-did every team + added more for states without teams. The Utah team was Utah Blizzard. But now I don’t like it for an nhl team haha.
