Maybe you could ape the '90s Jazz a little and make the hem striping evoke a mountain range and... Utah has a long tradition of borrowing from Denver on the NBA side of things, so I guess it's just as well that they start doing it with hockey and the perils of snow-covered mountains, too. Everyone's nickname is just their last name with a 'y' added on. The Good Ol Hockey Game. Bubble hockey and Hockey Night in Canada. It's all so beautifully kitschy. The league should have team names that match that vibe. North Stars, Whalers, Nordiques, Metropolitans/Sockeys/Totems/Emeralds. Instead we have Wild, Hurricanes, Avalanche, Kraken. Even the name Golden Knights has some kitschy vibes (not the identity itself, however). Black Diamonds would be a welcome choice. But it'll be the Utah Yetis. It could, but diamond in cards are red, but I do see the correlation. They would need to do a LOT of story telling on the identity I think for people to get it. Especially at this current moment where REI-chic is still pretty on-trend.
