Any rumblings on the Lions new unis? I really hope they dont mess it up.

At this point I want a giga leak of the uniform changes. Just the whole 9 yards. It's just kinda wild that outside of the Texans road uniform, no other uniform has had a significant leak from retail or even like a team photoshoot.

Well last year the Cardinals managed to keep everything under lock and key until the day of their reveal (only to underwhelm just about everyone on the planet—but given the alternative, that may have been the smart play). So it is possible, and maybe the Texans and other teams learned *some* lessons from the Cardinals.

I think teams have gotten smarter about the leaks over the last few years. Arizona, if memory serves me correctly, has been the only team in the last ten years to be kept under wraps. Maybe the 2013 Jaguars, but I'm not sure.

The 2018 Jags definitely were definitely the victims of the funniest leak reveal. Images at the JAX airport? Hilarious.

Especially because the way uniforms leak makes a big difference. I'll never get over how the Falcons set started off on completely the wrong foot because the first images were the jerseys hanging on a rack and some random, no-name, non-football playing white dudes wearing the full set in an office setting. Optics matter, and the jokes of "omg no way this is real" and "they look like the longest yard" were already throttling the algorithm before the Falcons media team woke up that next morning.

They conceded and gave the go on the unveil the very next day (I think they had over a week left before the unveil date). But the general public had kind of already decided the uniforms were a joke. They looked WAY BETTER on actual players.

I think this is exactly why Cal McNair was quick to send off a more polished image of the Texas uniform when that not so great phone snap of someone modeling it came out the other day. If that was the only leak we had right now, would people feel different about the Texans uniforms? Nerds like us would immediately see that image and go, "oh, well, looks like the fit isn't right for the player model."

But the average person is going to see that dinky image of a Texans player standing around in that uniform and think "lol these look little league." Because in that image, it does.

Casual fans gain most of their feelings towards uniforms on presentation, which is why social posts/videos/graphics for uni reveals have become so paramount and such a big priority for social teams, especially in college ranks where uniforms are changing week to week. We are the EXTRA WEIRD lemmings that will parse through the noise and look for different things on a uniform based on context we have to where we might deduce how it's going to look, and end up with a completely different opinion of someone else.

Thsese uni reveal presentations have become just as important as the uniforms themselves. But, leakers gonna leak.

Way better?  Meh.  IIRC that player unveil was the first time anyone saw that black to red gradient and the WTFs could be heard from miles away.

Especially for someone with your taste I see your point. But, this image is the one that is seared into my brain. This was the first image of the uniform anyone saw, and it was jarring.

Is there a new template this year other than the silly "V" one that most teams used last year?  I'm noticing that some 2024-specific replicas, even the $$350 style, are on a template that doesn't have that "feature".

(this is not the top-model one, as Fanatics took that one down overnight, but the cut was more/less the same - definitely not the "vapor hyper super ultra mega fuse" or whatever dumb-ass name they call their dumb-ass crap.)

EDIT: something else I just thought of - since Jason Kelce and Fletcher Cox are technically still on the roster since their retirements aren't technically effective yet, if you order their jersey, do you get the one with the new wordmark that they'll have never worn and never will, or one that's last-year's stock?  Ones with the old wordmark aren't on sale, which is what I would have expected, but that just be because Fanatics doesn't even realize that anything changed.

It’s just the same retail template they have been using since Elite51, Nike has been extremely cheap with replicas

The Falcons uniforms, like many other sets, suffer from Bad Combination Syndrome. When they go black over white they look great. It looks like a modern interpretation of the 1990s uniforms, which is great.

But then you get into the all-white with white leotard pants or black leggings with the away jersey, which of course is not good. If they threw in white or red socks it would be much more palatable.

I fully expect the new Lions uniforms to be blue/blue, white/white, and black/black. Silver pants only added right before the season when the fans mutiny.

Every year we get sports uniform changes, and every year people are surprised at how little has leaked. Truth be told, leaks are sort of uncommon. Especially today. Teams take a lot of precautions (including termination threats) to prevent these leaks, and most of the time they’re well aware of the weak spots that cause them (mostly, logistics on shipping stuff out prior to reveal so that it’ll be in stores when the buzz is still high).

I used to HATE having to wait to see these. Now? It’s actually kind of fun. It’s like, oh, I’ll have something else to look forward to in April!

@timjameskohler couldn't have said it better.

Almost every NFL uniform has suffered from combination issues the last few years -- not even the 49ers and Cowboys are immune.

I am equally concerned that both the Lions and Broncos will be too focused on emphasizing the "iced out" look -- one Detroit seemingly preferred, and Denver seems to be leaning into from a brand perspective -- that will inevitably lead to worse uniforms, no matter the design motif. Same thing that happened with Arizona last year, their uniform pieces are really nice but the all-red and all-white just drags the look down.

We're going to be getting more of this, not less. My only last hope is that the trend of throwbacks becoming more prominent as an option will endear more fans to classic styles and eventually we will see a trend back to the norm. But man, the league looks atrocious right now.

It's nice to see someone urging calm while we wait.

This your first day here? We don't do calm in these parts. 😎

Those WTFs were heard in Antarctica. Good lord, those new Falcons uniforms were awful. They still are, they just don't elicit the WTFs any more.

I distinctly remember red pants and socks being unveiled that never saw the field

True, but that's kind of my point. Cautious optimism is a good thing, and all the D-Day talk gets old. I'm not asking everyone to say "The new jerseys will be awesome!", but some teams did correct the Nike errors (Browns, Bucs) and Nike is capable of getting a new uniform set right (Chargers). So I want to acknowledge when someone suggests a quote about a uniform may not lead to disaster.

Hopefully they saw how bad the mismatch was when the Broncos wore their white jerseys and navy pants so they don't make that mistake.

One thing I would like to see the Falcons wear this year is a white version of their throwbacks for a test run like what the Jets did. The Falcons are eligible for new uniforms next year and the throwbacks would be a good start point.
