Broken Record
Football - Tony Dorsett - Cowboys; about 5'9" and 180#, a hero for the little guysBasketball - Magic Johnson - Lakers; Sweet shot and great charismaBaseball - Brook Jacoby - Indians; Saw him hit a homer at Yankee Stadium to win the game.Hockey - Patrick Roy; Growing up in TN, I didn't follow hockey until my teen years in the mid 80s (shame on me), but Patrick Roy was definitely my favorite. I loved the Canadiens and then moved my allegiance to the Avs, but now that he's gone, I pull for the home team Preds.

CZzyzx41
In baseball it was Dale Murphy. Poor catcher, great Center Fielder and LDS to boot. After him was a mix of Tony Gwynn and Wally Joyner. I also always admired Cal Ripken and Dave Stewart. In football it was Joe Montana and Lionel James. I still remember, he was the first football player I ever saw make a big play on TV.IN basketball it was Danny Ainge. I was a Kings fan and he was just about the only decent player on the team.In hockey...Wayne Gretzky. I didn't know much about the sport and he was the icon. -DanielCheck Out My Podcast! jamesjduncan
What a cool, cool idea this was. Kudos to everyone who has contributed to this thread. If I may.....Basketball - Dan Majerle. I saw this goofy white guy stick a 180 power dunk in a playoff game. My first thought was.....who the hell is he? Followed by.....that's cool. Baseball - Lenny Dykstra. Loved him as a Met. When he got traded to the Phils, I remember being ecstatic because it was my hometown club. I got to meet him. It was at a card show being held at a flea market kinda place, and my god was he hungover. It was neat. Hockey - Several here. When I played, I was a fighter. I always had a soft spot for fighters. Dave Brown, Craig Berube, Bob Probert were among my favorites when I was a little younger. Now, PJ Stock and Todd Fedoruk are some of my favorites. I had a total fixation with Murray Craven when I was little. I thought he was the greatest player ever. In retrospect, I have no idea why. Football - I saved this for last, because I have a killer story to tell, that's 100% true. Christian Okoye was my favorite when I was a kid, but that ain't the story. Honorable mention goes to Jerome Brown (God rest his soul). I had the privledge of meeting JB the night of his last televised interview before his death. It was at a taping of the Randall Cunningham show after the 1991 season, I think. Anyway, I went to the taping with my neighbor, Mark. He was at one point a limo driver. He worked for the company that had the Eagles' account, so he got to chaffeur alot of the players, including JB. When Mark and I saw him outside the TV taping, it was maseltov all around. They are reminiscing and such, Jerome asked me if he could sign something for me. It was cool. Then, I plop you not when I say this, the man asked me to go to a gentleman's club with him and Mark. Mark explained that I was 12 and could not get into a strip joint. This was the quote from Jerome Brown, without a word of exaggeration. "Man, I am Jerome Motherf***in Brown, All-Pro defensive tackle, Philadelphia Eagles! Who the f*** is gonna argue with me! C'mon little man, you wanna see some titties?" Now, I never did go, but joking or not it was one of the coolest moments of my life.

rmackman
My favorite players were:...and John Vanbiesbrouck, but it says I've posted too many images! "Every morning in Africa, a gazelle wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must outrun the slowest gazelle or it will starve. It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle. When the sun comes up, you'd better be running." - Unknown | Check out my articles on jerseys at Bacon Sports

WSU151
"Thunder" Dan Majerle- Was a good white boy. One of the Phoenix Suns Greats Touchet on Thunder Dan. He was also one of my favorites. Others in basketball were Magic Johnson, Clyde Drexler, and Reggie Miller.John Elway was my favorite football player until I saw Drew Bledsoe play in college. Yeah yeah, I know. However, following Bledsoe is what led me to become a Pats fan in 1993, and although I still root for him, my love for the Pats hasn't changed. In baseball it was Wade Boggs, and Cal Ripken Jr. Hockey it was Cam Neely when I was young, and in my mid-teens, it was Joe Sakic and Peter Forsberg. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Anemic_Royaltea
Baseball - Ed-gar Martinez. super great baseball player, i would say, even though i'm not much of a baseball fan.Football - wasnt a football fan back say... 5-10 years ago, but i liked Elway and the Broncos if i remember correctly, but that could've just been because they were winning superbowls with terrel davis at the time.Basketball - Karl Malone, just so i could say someone other than michael jordan when someone asked.Hockey - Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg, Patrick Roy & Adam Deadmarsh... got into hockey in 1995-96, watched the Avs crush the stupid 'hometown' canucks and immediately gained an appreciation for them. And Theoren Fleury naturally, being a transplanted Calgarian and all.
