So....

How many draft picks will the Jets give New England for Cassel?

The Patriots will never work a trade, especially one involving Cassel, with the rival Jets.

Instead, the Jets will have to resort to finding a quarterback with the 17th pick in the Draft (Ugh), playing backup Kellen Clemens (Ugh!), singing Byron Leftwich (UGH!!), or bringing back the immortal Vinny Testaverde (Now we're talkin!).

This is the crew that traded Bledsoe to the Bills-and saw that work out swimmingly for them. Trading Cassel to the Jets might end up just as well.

C'mon now, shipping Bledsoe off to the Bills did no harm to the Pats because Buffalo was (and still is) going nowhere. Brady was the younger quarterback at the time and had just led them to a Super Bowl win, when Beldsoe was given eight years or so to win with that team and couldn't cut the mustard.

The difference with the Pats this time around is that Brady has three rings and Matt Cassel didn't even get New England to the playoffs -- plus, it's pretty clear that Tom is not going to be 100% next year. They're going to need Cassel to stick around until they are 100% sure Brady is back to full strength.

And IF Cassel does get traded, it sure as hell won't be to the Jets. That would have been like the Pack sending Favre to the Vikes last year -- You just don't trade a franchise player to an arch rival.

Cassel might simply be the product of a very good offensive set. I'm not sold on him being an elite player now or growing into being an elite player down the road.

Trade him to sabotage the Jets' chances of winning in the future.

I thought that Erik Ainge would eventually be the Jets future QB. In fact at the time of the draft I really wanted the Ravens to draft him (of course I'm now glad we didn't and took Flacco in the first round). I really saw him as a late round sleeper that eventually would become a top QB. Of course I don't have any idea how he's done with the Jets, so I'm not sure what their stance on him is.

When will he announce his comeback?

Brett Favre will be a Texan by the first week of next season. You heard it here first, take it to the bank.

My money's on the CFL.

He's going to play for San Antonio?

Hamilton has a history of making bad decisions. Favre's a Ti-Cat by March 13.

The Jets are the Jets again, no more Bretts. Wonder what John Madden is doing right now...

Staying his court-required 50 feet away from Brett, I am sure...
