2008 World Series

Also, the couple sitting in front of us bought their tickets for $950 each. I didn't have the heart to tell them I was there for free.

That's not all, my friend: let's think that they paid $950 to see a lopsided rout of their team and you watched for free a great victory. WHOA! :D

Very nice all your yesterday's experience. :)

I know what you're getting at. It doesn't change my stance on wanting to go to Philadelphia as a visiting fan. I'd welcome the verbal assaults and teasings because I'm a man.

Unless you're stuck near drunk unruly fans (and pretty much every stadium has them, not just ours), you'll get some verbal abuse but won't be attacked physically. The national media acts like we beat the ish out of every opposing fan and that's not the case, but we love the reputation that we do... ^_^

Never being one to leave well enough alone, I've decided to make another attempt at crashing the World Series tonight. I think the chances of being successful are far lower tonight than yesterday, but it's worth a shot... right?

This time, you need to bring a camera to document your exploits. We (and by "we", I mean "I") demand a photographic timeline.

We saw a small group of Tampa fans come in and immediately start screaming for security. They demanded escorts to their seats, and asked that security stand by their section at all times, because their local media and travel agents warned them about the brutal treatment that out of towners face in Philadelphia, and told them that without security, they'd be physically assaulted and likely injured. Let the record show that had they not screamed and acted like complete idiots, nobody would have even payed them any attention at all - let alone "assault" them. I don't know what they're saying down there, but I think maybe there is some lead in those stupid cowbells.
Heh....one of my things on my "fan checklist" is to go to a game in Philadelphia where my team is the visiting team, and make it known I'm a fan of the opposing team, and just see what kind of verbal abuse I'd get from the locals. Especially if it's a game that's got a lot of meaning, whether it be a playoff game or late-season game....

Now that I re-read my post, it does sound a little misleading.

"Let the record show that had they not screamed and acted like complete idiots, nobody would have even payed them any attention at all - let alone "assault" them."

The screaming and acting like idiots wasn't them "cheering", it was the way they yelled for help the second they got into the park. Also, I was trying to say that had it not been for that, nobody would have even noticed them. They were in no danger of being "assaulted". I think my post implies that they got attacked, which is not the case.

The only road games I've gone to were UGA at Georgia Tech, and the crowds were more pro-UGA than pro-Tech each time.....

Philly fans aren't that bad when you go into their house rooting for the visiting team (baseball). I did it a couple times a few years ago and outside of some verbal jabs nothing came of it except for a fun time. Then again I'm sure it'd be diferent going to an Eagles game wearing Cowboys gear.

Now if you want an experience complete with physical threats and having stuff thrown at you just for wearing the other tean's gear I recommend a Raider game in Oakland.

I'm also not one who usually complains about the officiating; however, the umpiring in this series is nothing short of bad with the number of missed calls. Blanton clearly had some type of substance on the bill of his cap and the umpires refused to look at it when requested to. We all know what Kenny Rogers did a couple years ago would it have killed them to check and see what it was even if it turned out to be nothing.

So does it end tonight or does Tampa Bay get a win and make this thing fun again? I think Cole Hamels pitches a gem and The Phillies romp their way to the title tonight. Just to avoid "jinxing" anyone please note that I said "I think."

I think the best chance to wrap up the series comes tonight. I don't trust Myers and Moyer in the last two games on the road, nor do I think the offense can sustain itself if it doesn't come through tonight.

As for Philly fans... well... I'd like to think that most exchanges are cordial. I try to be the same way so long as the other person isn't an ass. I remember having a nice 45 minute conversation with a Yankees fan at the ballpark when they came here a few years ago, even though I was (though not as much anymore), a pretty staunch Yankee hater. But he was a baseball fan, and we talked about baseball. Same thing when I went to Yankee Stadium and I proclaimed that I was there strictly as a baseball fan -- had nice converstations with the fans around us about, well, baseball.

My only experience as "the enemy" came in September, 2005, at RFK stadium. Towards the end of the game, my girlfriend and I drifted towards a group of Phillies fans that had grown to about 100 or so and who, by that point in the game, were trading light-witted barbs back and forth with the Nats fans (including my girlfriend, yelling "my dad can beat up your dad!" at a ten-year-old who was yelling at us). When the game ended with a Nats win in thirteen innings, we all shook hands and patted each other on the back. It was fun.

I'm not saying every experience will be like that, but still.

After seeing the Backstreet Boys in Tampa other night, I didn't think it was possible to find anyone more washed up to sing the National Anthem...

Anyways, quick prediction for Game 5: Same score as the 1980 clincher, Phillies win 4-1.

Personally, I think this is game 7 for the Phillies. Win or its over. I just don't see them having to wait through the travel day, go back to the Trop, pitch Myers and Moyer in that situation and win one of the two especially not with the momentum the Rays will have if they win tonight.

McCarthy, I feel the same thing than you. The Phils must win it now and avoid the trip back to the Bay.

Once this becomes official, do you think Major League baseball would ever dream of calling the deciding game of a world series? It looks like it's pouring there.

I was wondering the same thing. Do the playoffs have modified rules or do they follow standard rules? I'd really hate to see this end on a shortened game.

The Phillies are now three quick outs away from making this game official.

I would hate to see a shortened game result in crowing a World Champion, but I suppose that's just another one of MLB's insane rules -- really no way around it. <_<

Actually Curty, there is no shortened game in the postseason I believe, so it must be completed or its Game 5 pt deux tomorrow.

So basically either they finish the game, or it's a mini-doubleheader tomorrow?

Game 6 isn't until Wednesday and it's also being played in Tampa Bay -- so I would say a doubleheader is verrry doubtful. :P
