So how many writers will give Utah the #1 spot?

Probably none, although they deserve to be in the National Title game. I'm declaring them my National Champions as the onl undefeated team in the country.

Same here.

Make it three. Utah went 12-0, won their BCS bowl and beat a highly ranked team to do it. I see no argument against them being crowned champs.

A while back somebody posted a list that showed how many of the previous national champions had fewer wins over ranked teams than Utah did and ever since I've said they need to play in the national championship game. I hope the players get some kind of ring because they deserve it. You could see it in their eyes, they came to play and flat out wanted it more than Alabama.

If the Big Ten is the most overrated conference in football then The Big XII is a close second. Actually, I think it's more like this. USC is the best team in the country. The good SEC teams are a whole lot better than everyone else, except USC. Then there is everyone else. Sure the Big XII has one some bowl games but who have they beaten? I wouldn't say any of their wins have come against upper tier opponents. That aside, at least the Big XII has won some bowl games. The same can't be said for The Big Ten.

This is exactly what it looks like to me. I really like this description but now you would have to add in Utah. Wow I can't believe how good they are.

That was a terrible mistake, then. Unlike Hawaii, Utah has actually played a pretty good schedule this year.

Personally, I'd argue it was on par with USC's. Which is the crux of my argument as to why the Utes should be ahead of the Trojans in the National Title Conversation.

Like I said the Utes are really good but I don't think they have a chance against SC with a month off. Besides Vince Young nobody has come close to USC in in a major bowl game after the break.

How the Utes don't get at least a split of the National Title after this one is beyond my comprehension.

It helps when you're not even playing the Big Ten champion in those Rose Bowls (this year being the exception).

It doesn't matter if you appear good in January if you lose to some team like Arizona or Washington State or (really the entire Pac 10 nowadays) that has no business being within 3 touchdowns of you on paper. Maybe some day USC will get the hint. :P

Utah actually has a legitimate beef. They played a schedule that was on par with (if not just flat out BETTER than) the other teams in the BCS and went undefeated.

I hope that the AP does the right thing and give them their title.

Utah should be "National Champions" and the Florida-Oklahoma winner could be "BCS Champions." I think that's the only fair way to do it. Besides, it's not like it's never happened or something. Utah kicked the :censored: out of the #4 team in the country tonight. I don't think the game was ever as close as the score indicated. Unless someone has a really convincing argument to the contrary, I'd say we're wasting our time waiting for next week to crown a National Champion. Utah won it all tonight. Period. I'm just glad the BCS didn't send Utah within 500 miles of a game Ohio State is involved in.

USC is the best team in the nation whether we like it or not.... even with the loss to Oregon State could this spark a debate of a possible 3 or 4 team split of the title  Florida or Oklahoma with Texas if they win and USC or Utah or both

How do you split a national championship 3-4 ways when there are only two polls?

The BCS and Harris polls are done for the season. (At least, I believe the Harris Poll doesn't vote post-bowls.)

The ESPN/USA Today poll has an obligation to vote the winner of the BCS Championship as #1.

The AP Poll can choose whoever they want.

I say the AP Poll should put Utah at number 1 and if not, at least number 3.

Why? Well, let's say Florida does win next week. Who has the better record against teams ranked in the BCS poll? Utah (3-0 against Florida's 2-1)

Who did better against a common foe in Alabama? Utah (Won by 14 while Florida only won by 11)

You can't really argue with those stats. So, let the Coaches Poll have Florida or Oklahoma at number 1. I think most of us know who the real number 1 team is.

I love it when a team like Utah comes along and throws the BCS for a loop. All the more reason for a playoff.

The Utes are undefeated. They beat Alabama, a team that had been No. 1 for much of the season. They should be No. 1.

But I do think USC had the best team this season.

I was trolling around and wondering... will it be ABC and not Fox who airs next year's BCS National Championship from the Rose Bowl ?

ESPN will air it.

They will carry all the BCS bowl games next year. I'm not sure if the Rose Bowl is sticking around on ABC or not.

However, if the Rose Bowl was the site of the NC game this year, it would be on Fox. The NC championship game is supposed to be considered a separate game from the other BCS bowl games. ABC only held the rights to the Rose Bowl and not the BCS Championship.

Utah deserves the National Championship, they have made 2 BCS bowls in the past 4 years, gone undefeated twice, they have shown now by beating down on 'Bama that they are legit, something I have known for a while.

Roll Tide?

And Alabama has won 13 MNCs in the past. Based on what Utah did on the field this year they deserve a split title. The past, as well as your on paper talent, is irrelevant to this discussion.
