Not that I'm not guilty of it, but these season threads have a tendency to become veritable "sports twitters" for some posters. I don't need to know every time a Yankee (or a player from any team) blows their nose.

Justin Morneau just blew his nose.

all I'm saying is that unless we want this to become the college baseball thread I think people should avoid posting updates after every game with every piece of minutia about their team. In a 162 game season that thread would become entirely too large and bogged down.

I agree. Further, there won't be a lot of earth shattering news about the Nationals this season unless the following happens:

- "Savior" (Strasburg) is called up;

- More news about opposing fans outnumbering home team fans;

- A Nats player is in contetion to win a major batting or pitching category;

- Front Office moves (firings, trades, other callups, injuries, and hirings);

- Nats win more games than they lose and are in playoff contention; and

- A Nats pitcher or pitchers tosses a no-hitter or perfect game.

Who says the Giants have offensive problems? During their 10-4 win over Houston yesterday the Giants picked up more hits in a single game than they had all of last year. Last year in late August they had a 17 hit game, already in 2010 they have a 19 hit game. Cain looked good as well till the 7th, but his decline late in games is to be expected this early in the season. Once he gets to mid-season form he's gonna be a strong candidate for the Cy Young.

I know it was just the Astros, but so far so good for San Fran. First 3-0 start since 2003, the last year they won 100 games. This is gonna be an exciting team to watch this year.

Not to do another "twitteresque" post but... The Twins are now 4-1 and Jon Rauch has three saves. Granted, it's still very early but, so far losing Joe Nathan has had...well...zero effect. I only keep bringing this up because so many people were convinced that The Twins were done when Nathan went down for the season. So far they've done this on the road against two teams that are considered to be legitimate playoff contenders. Again, I realize it's only 5 games but this stuff starts to gather momentum. Every time Rauch gets a save, the confidence factor grows and blah blah blah. You get what I'm saying. I remain convinced that losing Nathan won't make enough of difference to matter.

I don't know any of these players, so I don't really have much of an opinion, but isn't it fair to say that just because they haven't blown a save doesn't mean that there's been no affect? These guys that are now saving games are no longer in middle / late relief, which means that those spots are weaker, which means that even if they save every single game that they make it in to, they could still end up worse off because of a weakness elsewhere in the bullpen? Also, if guys are saving games every day, doesn't it make it extra hard to give people nights off? While I'll agree that the actual position of "closer" is way overrated, losing a great reliever is never overrated, regardless of the spot in the pen that he occupied.

Again, I know nothing about the Twins, how they're doing, who these guys are, or anything about them (they still have Rod Carew, right?), so it's more of a general comment rather than one specific to their exact situation.

Sure it's fair to say that. It may end up being the case. We'll see as the season plays out. When Nathan went down people acted like The Twins would be lucky to win 80 games without him. I simply disagree with their opinion. I'm not saying that losing Nathan doesn't matter, I just don't believe it was the death blow to The Twins that a lot of people thought it would be. Right now it looks like The Twins have settled on Jon Rauch as their closer and so far he's gotten the job done. How long it lasts remains to be seen. All I know is that teams have made the playoffs and World Series without a "lights out" closer.

Oh and Rod Carew retired last year I think.
