Watched the video on ESPN's homepage for the ECU vs. Tulsa game. Crazy ending, wow.

But I noticed one of the Tulsa players was sporting one of the NFL's captain's patches.

It looked to be identical.

Here are Northwestern's new road uniforms in action:

I actually attended the unveiling of these uniforms a week or so ago -- my first one ever -- but my pics didn't really turn out because the event was held in the shadows, making the purple and black almost indistinguishable.

As far as I know the purple homes have yet to be unveiled (outside of replicas that are available for purchase near the stadium).

Anyone know what's with the piping inside the stripes on the pants? At first glance I thought maybe it was just the outline of the pads, but after looking at several pictures I'm thinking maybe not. Doesn't really fit the throwback vibe of these (with the return of the, ahem, "Northwestern" stripes and all).

I originally thought it was where they sewed the pockets for the pads, but after closer inspection the white lines are from the PowerWeb strips that Adidas is putting on the football pants this year. It's hard to see, but if you look closely you can see that the white is a slightly different color where the PowerWeb strips are.

Yeah... I see the white-on-white now. Thanks... it looked related to the pads. Wasn't familiar with the PowerWeb strips. So I guess we can call that an "unintentional" design element. (my guess is they could have masked it better if they wanted to.)

This Boise State/Virginia Tech game is just all kinds of ugly. Nike, stop. Just... stop. And to the FexEx Field staff, if both teams are going to be wearing weird Nike prototype helmets, why are the team's normal helmets painted twice in the end zones?

No because when the Irish came to Ireland and first came in contact with the leprechaun people, they didn't take their land away and force them to move west. Instead, the two groups learned to assimilate peacefully. However, certain tribes of the leprechaun refused to taint the pure blood and moved north into the forests of Ireland, only to be seen rarely, usually at the same time of a rainbows appearance and occasionally at the factories of Lucky Charms.

Here are Missouri State's new helmets in game action, against Eastern Kentucky. There are a lot of things I like about them, but it just looks strange with that uniform set. I wish there were some elements of graphite in the uniform to tie them in together. Maybe they'll grow on me.

boises unis are actually growing on me, i think they look good on actual athletes and in motion

If only the Bronco was on both side of the helmet I think they would be good.

I agree. But the Bronco head on both sides of the helmet and I'd love to see that as their primary helmet.

I really like the one-side uber-huge bronco with the large, offset rear numbers. Something different, but it just looks cool. The traditionalist in me cries, but i like it.

The rest of the uniform is... ugh... but those helmets are sweetness.

I think Boise State's Pro Combat uniform is head and shoulders above their regular uniforms. If they change the jersey to white, I'm happy. Actually, they should do with the Bronco head what the Michigan Panthers did with theirs and have it extend off the bottom of the helmet. At least there was thought put behind the creation of all the Pro Combat uniforms as opposed to all the uneeded piping crap and the Under Armor crap that's currently out there. You actually read the stories behind the uniforms and you think, "At least someone really thought about these as opposed to just slapping colors on the uniforms and screwing things up, such as Reebok's edge hockey uniforms." While you might not like the uniforms, they are at least thought out, where as there really is no thinking behind Reebok's edge uniforms over the past few years in the NHL, which are 90% of the time, just plain ugly and thoughtless crap.

Agreed. I liked some of the bronco elements, but it was mostly a hot mess in terms of the uniforms on both sides, but I do like the idea of tone on tone with different finishes...just not for football jerseys. But I applaud the creativity for a once-off.

Virginia Tech looked great. I thought the jerseys were terrible in the mock ups, but the unis on the players looked great. Boise State on the other hand, looked absolutely awful. The grey, the one sleeve colored blue, the Broncos on only one side of the pieces of equipment, the invisible word mark, the oversized logo. Ugh, it was all terrible.

I'm gonna say it, that game tonight looked amazing! I love those Boise State unis, and liked them even more seeing them on the field.

Va Tech's unis came out looking really good too.

People say too many black jerseys, and teams just use black because. But isn't it the same with grey road unis in baseball and white unis in other sports?

Agreed on all counts. This ridonkulous "pro combat" experiment needs to end. Now.
