Beltran to the Giants is now official

CSN just announced that the Giants will as well cut Pat Burrell. This really disappoints me. Sure he was streaky, cant field, and is nowhere near the player Beltran is, but if it wasn't for him the Giants wouldn't have done all they did last year. My opinion completely changed on him when he came to the Giants and I hope he catches on somewhere else. And whoever does get him will be getting a pretty darn good situationational hitter. Best of luck, Pat the Bat.

From the land of odd baseball coincidences:

This afternoon, Ervin Santana of the Angels pitched a no-hitter against the Indians in Cleveland, giving up 1 run despite the no-no.

This evening, in the backwater of indy-league ball, Andrew Moss of the Joliet Slammers pitched a no-hitter against the Lake Erie Crushers in the northern Ohio town of Avon, giving up 1 run despite the no-no.

I like Rasmus no longer being in the NL Central. I think the Cards didn't improve with the deal, and thats fine with me.

I also don't think the Reds are done yet. I think the Gomes deal was step 1 towards getting someone awesome. Never know with Jocketty.

The Cardinals improved THIS year by leaps and bounds.

But they basically took a dump on their future.

In what universe does trading Rasmus for Corey Patterson constitute improvement?

*starts faxing retirement home brochures to Cardinals front office*

They got a little better in the bullpen, but lost it all on offense and fielding. Gonna see some oxygen tanks in the dugout.

Corey Patterson does nothing for this team. But the bullpen got a LOT better. And the rotation got a bit better too.

The offense and fielding didn't get worse THIS year. Jon Jay had already taken Rasmus' job this month because Rasmus has been hitting so poorly and playing just okay defense. Jay's been hitting well all year and playing great defense.

So losing Rasmus doesn't hurt the Cardinals much this year because they haven't depended on him this year. But in the future it hurts bad.

Heck, I sound way too positive on this trade. Every single post I've made on Cards boards is ripping it, and I've ended all of my tweets suggesting we fire our GM. It's an awful, awful, awful trade. But if you could evaluate it only on what it does for the next two months, it fills about 4 needs (better starting pitcher-Jackson, better lefty reliever Rzepczynski, better righty reliever-Dotel, better all-around reliever-McClellan via rotation) without creating any. But starting in 2012 and into 2013 we're gonna be watching our old CFer making All Star teams and all we'll have to show for it is a decent left-handed pitcher.

I'm of the mindset that teams adding relievers at the trade deadline does absolutely nothing towards getting a team closer to a World Series title. You aren't acquiring a fresh arm, so you don't gain much of anything. You're much better off acquiring a position player....

I hated this trade simply because they probably could've gotten more for Rasmus. Jackson's a little overrated and other than Rzxecpvtinskdi, the rest of the guys seem more like throw-ins. Rasmus has definitely underperformed, but his potential is still really high. He would've been cheap if they had kept him, which would've been a plus, but his relationship with everyone was just not gonna allow it. But Mozeliak made another terrible deal. Now all he has to do is fail to sign Pujols and he will have officially f***ed up this franchise.

:cursing: The Tigers need to get moving.

I don't know the Indians just got one of the most overrated players in the MLB. I don't really expect him to make a major impact for Cleveland.

That's true, but the fact that the Tigers haven't got starting pitching help is mind boggling.

It'll happen, they're just waiting to pull the trigger.
