Giants suck. Getting swept sucks, but especially when it's against the Dodgers.

Especially when you're shut out 14-0 in the last two games of the series. Giants should be in the market for bats. They've needed bats for years. Yet they never look to trade for a true bat or try to land a big bat in free agency.

Wait - with that logic, aren't you far more likely to find the "best" team over 162 grueling games that often rewards the teams with the deepest staffs/pens/benches, compared to condensed rotations and bullpens you find in the playoffs?

Yes. That's why I find it stupid that the playoffs are the way they are. We play 162 games based on how good five starters plus seven or eight guys in the bullpen, then go to the playoffs and pitch three, maybe four starters, and the same number of relievers. Why play 162 games one way and then play the playoffs another? Play a five game series in five days. A seven day series in seven days.

I guess Beltran really was forgettable.

Can I say the Giants blow without getting jumped by the homers now? They just don't have it. They don't have anything to trade to get a bat, either. These guys had their chance to put themselves solidly in first when the Dodgers were reeling, but could barely muster a 2.5 game lead. And Panda being out doesn't give them the same leeway LA when Kemp was hurt. Sandoval hasn't done much recently, and since then the Dodgers got Manny 2.0 while the best the Giants can do is trade for something called Scutaro.

The Giants picking up Scutaro is a pretty desperate move. It's essentially Sabean saying, welp, we had to do something. It would be great to see them counter the Dodgers move of picking up Ramirez by grabbing Hunter Pence from Philly, but I don't see Sabean making that bold of a move after how disastrous the Beltran move was last season. The Giants still have a really good shot at winning this division IMO, but if they sit on their hands and watch the Dodgers get Ramirez, Dempster, and possibly even Pence, they're f****d.

I just don't know what the Giants can really do without their ownership willing to commit more to payroll which they've said they're not going to do.

I liked the move of adding Scutaro because they do need more infield depth and I think they're about ready to throw in the towel on Brandon Crawford being an everyday player as good as he is defensively. But there's just very little I see them being able to do in the short term.

That's what happens when the cheap Giants shareholders (how many are there again? Like 30) want to keep the profits instead of reinvesting them into the team. This pitching is going to waste away with out any good hitting around it. The time is now shareholders! I know they're gun shy after the contracts they gave Zito, Rowand, Huff, etc. but come on. Cheap old bastards.

Yankees are 4-12 in their last 16 home games against the Red Sox.

You know, there's nothing more frustrating than having a total inability to beat your biggest rival in front of your own fans. And by frustrating, I mean infuriating.

And by infuriating, I mean sickening. Very, very sickening.

As an aside, this just reminds me, once again, about how the AL has a number of "good" teams, but no great team at all. I could see any team in the AL going to the World Series, and any team being a total flameout in the first round. Nothing in the world would shock me.

As a Giants fan, I find it downright insulting that the Giants are saying they just can't afford to give guys big contracts because they don't have the money. They've made out like gangbusters the last three seasons with the World Series win and there is absolutely no reason why they can't put some of that extra profit back into the team. I understand not wanting to load up the team with huge contracts, as that can cripple what they can do, but with all of the hitting problems they've had they can't go out and splurge on one bat? Sure they just resigned Cain to a HUGE deal and it'll take a lot to reup their current guys when the time comes, but every team has those issues. It's just frustrating because they're SO close to being a really scary team. One impact hitter can change the dynamics of that lineup tremendously. They should've taken a risk and did all they could to resign Beltran, especially for what they had to give up to get him, rather than just letting him walk.

Well the Giants used to be able to get over that with fantastic pitching, and for the most part they've still been pretty fortunate to keep that up. In no way should they even be tied in the NL West, yet here they are. They've done this before, so who's to say they won't be able to pull off another run like that?

Also, what the **** happened to Tim Lincecum this year?

Kendrys Morales had himself one HELL of a 6th inning tonight. He became the 3rd player in history to hit a homerun from each side of the plate in one inning. He hit a 2-run shot left-handed off of Roy Oswalt, then a right-handed grand slam off of Robbie Ross.

Well that ten game winning streak was fun while it lasted. Of course, it had to end while I was in attendance. For a team 20 games over 500, the Reds have a terrible record when I'm in attendance. I think it's 4-9.

Cubs dealing away roster filler and cash for prospects. Still talking turkey with the Dodgers, Reds, and potentially Giants on moving Soriano/Dempster.

Travis Snider has been traded. Details to follow.

To Pittsburgh for Brad Lincoln....

:crickets

I'm a little surprised the Pirates made this move because I think Lincoln is the guy who actually has more value the Snider does.

Lincoln has been really good coming out of the pen this year. He's got an ERA under 1 in over 30 innings pitched in relief. Travis Snider is looking like someone who's going to make a major league career out of potential. He's still young enough to where he can pull himself together and have a good major league career, but I just don't see it happening. I don't think its due to a lack of success is due to a lack of effort or unwillingness to learn, I just think he got overprojected. He came in with a mature body and I think that's really what was the key to his success in the minors. Talent level wise I don't think he's really gotten all that much better since he was drafted and I don't he's going to either.

I hope they can dump Soriano and Dempster somewhere tomorrow. It was disappointing to see Dempster shoot down the deal to the Braves, especially after he had previously said Atlanta was one of the places he would want to go. He's a great guy so it's hard to get too mad at him, but vetoing a trade after it was all public really hurt any leverage the Cubs had in negotiations with other teams. They had a pretty good return on the Braves trade too.

Dempter's a decent starter, but he's falsely idolized in Chicago because he does a crappy version of Will Ferrell's Harry Caray impression.
