New Carolina Hurricanes uniforms

Recommended Posts

Dull, generic and inconsistent. It just doesn't seem right to have different designs for Home and Away uniforms. The only sport that can work in is baseball. But most teams that attempt it have at least some historical significance. In most cases I see it as an organizations inability to decide on a design and just says "do both."

Thank God that mid-90's Patriots-ripoff number style is gone.

Instead we get boring, old Univers.

Meh.

The old numbers were perfect for the Canes. I usually hate italic numerals for sports uniforms, but they went well with the swoopiness of the logo. Plus, they look like something out of NASCAR, which was fitting for a Carolina team.

"We looked around the league at designs...and of course, the Original Six had some influence."

No s--t. You pull a reverse Lightning - Red Wings colours on the Leafs' template (the road even uses Toronto's '67 striping). These are some of the most God-awful monstrosities to ever be worn. I love how the designers acted all smart and sophisticated by doing an in-depth analysis:

"We were torn...to include laces or not? We called in some guys with lots of hockey experience (LOL!) to see what to do."

You know a design sucks when the designers make a big stink about what type of collar to go with. Ugggh.

The Carolina Hurricanes unveiled their new uniforms this morning. Voice your approval or displeasure.

My own opinion, they're a major downgrade and I'm disappointed.

They were smart to shrink the crest but it's too high.

After all these years the "tails" on the edge template still bug me beyond belief, especially on white jerseys. I know nothing about design, just know what I like. Is it not possible to at least make the tail the same color as the pants so it blends in? If the tail on the canes white jersey was red would it look less stupid? I think of this every time I watch the bruins. The black jersey looks great in part because you can't see the tail (black tail with black pants). I love the white b's jersey except the white tail looks foolish against black pants. Could they make the tail black?? Or how bout we just get rid of the stupid tails!!

would anyone have been opposed to putting the hurricane warning flags as a hem stripe on the pant legs (like the solid black ones on the old pants)?

Or is that too much of a "T'Wolves pine trees" kind of vibe?

I'm sure it would be possible, and while it would definitely look better on a uniform (ie. with pants), it would look a lot worse with just the jersey when the average fan is wearing one.

@Axis, never thought of that white team Canada jersey looking similar.

Maybe since they have three Staal's they'll put them on one line and become a team Canada for 40 seconds at time.

DON'T TALK TO ME ABOUT HOCKEY

Downgrade I'd say.

I agree the chest plate needs to come down about six inches and why they got rid of the storm flag pattern on the bottom of the sweater I'll never know. That was about the one cool unique feature with the Hurricanes look. Now they just look like the Detroit Red Wings light.

The best line of bull :censored: corporate buzz words is the "Hangar Effect" for the warning flags inside the collar.

You make the most creative, unique, and identifying part of the entire existence of the Carolina Hurricane's jerseys and branding into something you can only see when it's hanging up... most likely in a fan's closet... which could be obscured by the actual :censored: ing hangar... or other clothes... (assuming the group of non-plussed fans at the even even buy the damn thing.

Ugh.

- Logo is too small.

- Logo is too high.

- Striping is uninspired and dull.

- Striping doesn't match.

- Design is uninspired and dull.

- Design doesn't match.

- Laces on the home, without a traditional yoke.

- No laces on the road, with a traditional yoke.

- Squared off yoke.

- Hell, they didn't even use the samn god damn gloves or pants on each mannequin.

To reiterate:

This whole organization is just a waste of everyone's time.
