BBTV
I think Jim Jackson is pretty damn good whenever I drop in on Flyers telecasts, and complaining about the refs screwing the Flyers at a Phils game in July is just so delightfully perfect. He sounds too much like "mr. anouncer man" with his up and down voice and his phony laughs and yuking it up with Coatsy. I wish he still had his mustache. It was so perfect for him.Maybe it's because he followed a hall of famer in Gene Hart, who I grew up with, and was an all timer. Or maybe it's just because the radio guy (who was a one-man show for a while) is so great in a totally non-traditional-announcer-voice way. Or maybe it's all the complaining about the referees and how "you know (Keith) Jonesie, Mr. Snider took a crap in my mouth today and I have to say it was delightful and fantast - OHMYGOD CAN YOU BELIEVE THE REF LET HIM GET AWAY WITH THAT WHOA I CANNOT BELIEVE WHAT'S HAPPENING AGAIN TO THE FLYERS."Or "Well Bill (Clement),Mr. Snider was kind enough to finish in my mouth this time instead of on my face, but I'll tell you what- OHMYGOD HE MADE ANOTHER AMAZING SAVE - THE FLYERS WOULD BE WINNING 153-0 EXCEPT THAT OTHER GOALIE IS STANDING ON HIS HEAD! AND THE REFS!" "The views expressed here are mine and do not reflect the official opinion of my employer or the organization through which the Internet was accessed." WSU151
You can make reasonable arguments that the Mets, Phillies, Dodgers, and Cubs should all be "the Yankees of the NL." Maybe even the Cardinals and Braves, too. I'd kind of prefer we didn't have one. One is enough, thanks.I'm curious what the actual total revenue numbers are for each of those clubs. Gate, tv/radio, advertising, merch, etc. I'd assume that the Mets, Phillies, Dodgers, and Cubs would have a decided advantage over the Braves and Cardinals, however the Mets seem to have a lot of financial mismanagement that keeps them out of that top tier. The Dodgers aren't in an environment where there's pressure to be aggressive, and the Cubs have a gimmick to maintain. As the Cardinals have proved, brains beats money just about every time. But blowing money is fun though. At least in the offseason.Forbes releases the best estimates every year. Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half. pcgd
Good lord. I'm sure they'll get great value for him every one of those 7 years...Has a single large contract of over 3 years worked out for any pitcher?
dbadefense1990
It's funny. The Dodgers themselves have five players who will make $20 million annually, whereas there are only six other players making that much between the rest of the 14 National League teams.Sounds like the Guggenheims want to further themselves from the McCourt regime. And also interesting how Kershaw, not the Dodgers, has the opt-out clause beginning in 2019. CS85
Cubs held their always-weird convention, and here's what we've learned:Theo Epstein doesn't want to rush prospects to the majors......but hired a manager who likes to teach prospects......and could make a ridiculously huge investment in Tanaka......which would make Jeff Samardzija happy, since he hates being part of a rebuild, BUT......the Tanaka acquisition really murks the waters of if you're still in a rebuild phase or not, so they may have to trade Samardzija to acquire some batsI don't know. The Cubs are a stupid team. Quote "You are nothing more than a small cancer on this message board.
