That became the quintessential American hockey look and they haven't worn it since the 96 World Cup. Absolutely. I also wish we'd go back to using royal blue instead of navy for national teams. With so many people who didn't actually care about soccer buying up the USA world cup jerseys, hopefully other teams will consider going back to royal blue.Isn't our "official" color more like a navy blue than royal? It's very similar and would put St. Louis back into the top 5. The Blues will look very good wearing these sweaters. With that said... Why are teams so unable to make the little decisions that elevates a look from very good to flawless, or at least almost flawless? Hell, in this case they pretty much had the flawless decision right there in their inspiration, and they changed it for no damn reason. The sleeves stripes are too thick, but that's not a huge issue. The big issue is the thin royal blue stripe in between the yellow and the white. It's a completely unnecessary addition and makes the should stripes inconsistent with the sleeves and waist. I wouldn't mind having the blue stripe in the shoulder area. He did say it was modeled after the '60-'70's jersey. This is modeled after the '99 jersey. The old ones had more stripes. That's what makes it a (slight) downgrade from their inspirations. And as you said, it's solid, but that change was just not needed. It's sort of like how the Islanders went to their throwbacks fulltime, but they inexplicably went with the uniforms that are slightly different from what they wore during their dynasty years. I mean, the Islanders should be dressing the way they were in 1982 and are instead dressing the way they were in 1977, but at this point I'm just happy that they got close to how they should look after so many years wandering lost in the wilderness that it's good enough for me.
