Paraphrasing, but when they saw that a full-size model had the same radar visibility as a bug flying across the desert, the quote was, "We'll teach it to fly." Timaa
I was thinking if by chance the team did end up as the Nighthawks - which I actually like - or any other name starting with N, for that matter, a wordmark of LVN could be a nice double entendre. Las Vegas Nighthawks/Las Vegas Nevada.

BeerGuyJordan
I've never paid anywhere close to this much attention with a team's name selection process before, so how does this one stack up? This one seems like it's aimless and possibly turning into an exercise of "which option sucks less," even on Foley's side. Is that the norm? Thunder Bay Lynx - International Hockey Association (2 seasons, 2017-18, 2019-20, 2018 Xtreme Cup Champions) | Houston Armadillos - Major League Hockey (2 seasons, 2016-18) | Minnesota Muskies - North American Basketball Association (1 season, 2017-2018) | Louisville Thoroughbreds - United League of Baseball (1 season, 2017, 2017 United Cup Champions) | Las Vegas Thunderbirds - International Basketball League (1 season, 2016-17, 2017 Champions)

The only other one I paid attention to was Winnipeg, and that was essentially everyone saying, "Name it the Jets, or we riot." and TrueNorth made the right choice lol I'll respect any opinion that you can defend. The creation of a new major sports identity is a pretty rare thing, so there is no "norm" it seems. The "Jets" process was a lot simpler. I had heard rumblings of perhaps "Falcons" or "Moose" or the use of "Manitoba", but not too many were expecting anything other than the "Winnipeg Jets". This Las Vegas situation has a LOT more moving parts. It's gonna be a fun ride. *The Battle of Seattle
BrianLion
In terms of expansion, I feel like the last round (NAS, MIN, ATL, CLB) had their names fairly quickly after the announcement. Hell I remember I think it was the Ottawa/Tampa announcement where the teams basically had their nicknames and possible color schemes at the expansion announcement. Obviously, its a different world now from then, but I feel like Foley and Co should'v e had this vetted out a little more beforehand. Their group really seemed caught offguard when they couldn't use Black Knights. As early as the end of the ticket drive, they should've been conducting focus groups and ID'ing potential trademark issues.

Based on everything I read, it sounded like Foley didn't make a single move he wasn't expressly given permissionto do, by Bettman & Co. Still, you would think he'd have been better prepared, somehow. The naming thing really does make the organization look like they're a chicken running around with its head cut off.
