But what is news is that after months of this being out there, he's talking about that name not being a done deal. I suspect the NHL had something to say about borrowing a collegiate nickname. BBTV
It's not a good logo. In addition to being done in a minor-league / college style (thick stroke, lots of spikes/angles, shading/highlighting) the stick doesn't make any sense where it is (it really can't be held by the tail that's also supporting the cherry) but there's also highlights ok both sides of said cherry, which I'm not sure could possibly happen. FGM13
Black Knights is dumb. Knights, however, would be a perfect name. You get all the great imagery of the Black Knights moniker without being forced to use black in the colour scheme or have an awkward, four word name. Plus the wordplay with "Las Vegas Nights" which is as far as the "Sin City" connotations can go without being hokey. ShinyHubCaps
While this topic has (rightfully so) gone in the direction of speculation of the team name, I thought it was impressive that they had so many original logos in the ESPN article. They all had thick strokes and were very pictorial, but they had cool colors and were all unique to the NHL, at least at first glance. That's why I love the Flamingos one so much... definitely won't fly (pun intended) in the NHL because it's also a name brand for a casino, but the colors are unique. Foley should take a lesson from the "Charlotte Bobcats" and realize that a team owner cramming something that's personal only to him down the throats of a market doesn't typically work out too well these days. Like a smart businessman he should let the market dictate how he brands his club by making it something meaningful to the region and his base of ticket buyers. Foley seems like a bright guy and not an ego maniac so I assume he'll go this route. Knights, be they black or any other other color, is extremely generic (movie team name!) and means nothing to the people of Las Vegas. Vegas and the surrounding area are more closely tied to the US Air Force, not freaking West Point.
