Wow, I wasn't expecting this at all. I like the new logo but I guess if they want to go back to what is obviously the superior logo then I'm not gonna complain.

I think what you do is model the uniforms after the throwback and fix the logo so that the Dolphin's pointing down instead of up. A combination of two eras.

The fact that I feel like the team would consider "updating" to that throwback look is not encouraging.

In 2002, there were reports that team owner Dan Synder strongly considered making the 2002 fauxback 70th anniversary uniforms the new full time set.

In 2007, the 75th anniversary uniform pants and socks were shelved after one loss wearing them...

Until 2010, when the team decided to just use the pants and socks from a throwback set with their current helmet and jersey.

Therefore I could totally imagine the team completing this mishmash identity evolution in 2017.

Only problem is we finally brought back the burgundy pants last year. So.

I've long thought that the team should really work hard to come up with an intentional "classic" set that takes the best elements of the past but actually thinks about how to use them. Such as the following.

DC teams should drop the "W" altogether.  I don't know anyone that says "Washington".  It's just DC.  If someone said "Washington" in casual conversation, unless the context made it obvious, I'd assume it meant the state.

That's a new one I haven't heard before. Being from Washington, D.C. I obviously hear both all the time, but I wouldn't say it's universal outside of the district. I see what you mean though, especially with just the word "Washington." Some friends I've made over the years from other parts of the country have told me that until they met me, they always thought the "Washington Redskins" was a team from the state of Washington.

If we're talking about what the District of Columbia should be called, the place to start is obviously the voting rights travesty that is our lack of statehood. I'm in favor of Douglass or Potomac, although it's likely that when statehood eventually becomes a reality, the state formerly known as the Washington/Washington, D.C./District of Columbia/the District/D.C. will be known as the "State of Washington, D.C." with the "D.C" standing for the "Douglass Commonwealth.

I'm not just saying most of the time it's DC, I literally never hear anyone (outside of a news or sports broadcast or an Amtrak station) say Washington.

Are you saying just "Washington" or are you including "Washington, D.C."? In either case, I think it's pretty common to hear "Washington" in reference to the U.S. capital. Anywhere in the greater metro region to be sure, but also mostly anywhere on the east coast I would imagine, and am pretty confident I've experienced, "Washington" naturally referring to the city between Maryland and Virginia throughout my life.

I wouldn't mind this either. I personally think the Dolphins have a solid identity as is, but I could welcome a modernization of the throwbacks, especially with a cleanup of the blotchy logo and the striping inconsistency.

No kidding, the old dolphin designs were a mess as far as detail is concerned. The worst offender of this is the 1989-96 logo. It's like the designer tried to channel Bob Ross with the splotches but came up short.

Thank goodness. Their old logo (In all forms) is my absolute favorite in the NFL. Their current look is one of the worst in the league thanks to that trash logo they use. I've honestly never seen a logo that looks worse on a helmet. The old one was a bit cheesy (That's what I absolutely loved about it though, and removing the helmet from the dolphin is tragic), but at least you had a pretty good sense of how it was supposed to be placed. This current logo? It's all over the place.

I'm not a graphic designer (and granted that last picture is photoshopped), but it's downright BRUTAL how much the placement on that logo varies. The shape of the current logo sucks so bad. Had they at least kept the former crescent style shape, it would probably be passable even without the dolphin wearing the helmet. But the direction they rendered that dolphin is just awful, and it's only exacerbated by how many different helmet styles there are.

I don't think we'll see them full-time in 2018.  Any changes for next year have already been submitted, if I understand the process correctly.  Maybe 2020, as 2019 will be the final season of that five-season alt jersey rule.

Smart is believing half of what you hear. Genius is knowing which half.

Its just D.C.  At least in Phila and NYC. I guess there's no need to say "Washington" - it's just a waste of 3 syllables.  My friends in DC also never say Washington, but that's a much smaller sample size than other cities I'm familiar with. It actually came up this morning as I was boarding my daily Amtrak - someone in line asked "is this the train to D.C.?" "No, DC is that way".

Not in my experience, I hear "Washington" a lot in NYC.

I'll never forget when I was at the DC Zoo and I overheard a woman ask "The Redskins play in Washington state right?" As a Redskins fan I never felt more offended.

The number of helmet styles is not the issue.. Brandon Moore posted a graphic here last year that shows how they center the logo in creative, and it's pretty straight forward.. There are certain sun rays that should be pointing straight up and down vertically.. If you use those to keep it centered and oriented properly, it's not tough to be consistent

If you live in the area, it's D.C.  Perhaps away from the mid-Atlantic they say "Washington" because that's how the area is referred to on the news.

I am a big fan of the Dolphins current color scheme but the rest of the set sucks. On the other hand, those throwbacks they have been wearing should become permanent. They are among the best in the league
