It also sounds ridiculous, just go with Chinooks, sounds pretty good tbh

“Chinook” is obviously far too similar to “Canuck.” 🙂

I still don't have a website, but I have a dribbble now! http://dribbble.com/andyharry

On local Seattle radio today they mentioned that they've heard the name choices are down to 3. Kraken, sockeye and steelhead.

They also said salmon color would be included.

I don't really believe that report though, I don't think steelhead has ever really been on the table with the Idaho steelheads being a thing.

And for the color, I think they're just taking a cue from the website which is featuring that color for now.

It would only really make sense to do the salmon color if the name was Sockeyes.

The World Basketball Championship, the Davis Cup, Ryder Cup, Iraq: Every day there's further proof that we, as a nation, are not very good at international competition.

Aside from Kraken being an outdated name already in my mind, it's a much more of a reach to connect it to the area...

Kraken

According to the Norse sagas, the kraken dwells off the coasts of Norway and Greenland and terrorizes nearby sailors.

Sockeye

Found in the Northern Pacific Ocean and rivers discharging into it as far south as the Columbia River in the eastern Pacific.

If they go with Kraken I'll instantly hate them even more than I do that stupid team in Vegas.

Going by NHL logic, of course it'll be Kraken.

So something as stellar as this with their Kraken might sway you? :)

Not sure where the station is getting their info.  From nearly all accounts, Kraken has been off the table for a while.  Neither the team nor the NHL seem particularly keen on the name.

As for the colors, it's notable that they didn't start using these colors until the team's official NHL team site went live.  Prior to that, they were still using the generic black, white, silver/grey, and red.  Considering all NHL team sites are dressed in team colors, I would lean more towards the side of these being the Seattle team colors than not.

There's actually a huge Norwegian culture and heritage in Seattle and Western Washington, not to mention the nautical/naval/fishing history, so it's not too hard of a stretch to connect the two.

But it's not likely to be Kraken anyway.

Right, I live near Seattle's Ballard neighborhood and have even taken part in the annual Norwegian May 16 parade. Unfortunately their culture has been phased out over the past 10-20 years to a shell of what it used to be. Very few Scandinavians left.

That being said, if the mythical Kraken is from sea around Norway and Greenland, that still doesn't place it here in the PNW.

Hope you're right in that they aren't considering it anymore.

Bad, worse, and boring.

At least Kraken is an identity that you could take some liberties with. Sockeyes will never not be terrible.
