The detailing on the LA kits is cool (such as the crest application), but just a shame to see the YTTV logo ruin it. It’s funny because the club’s promotional images have used a gold YTTV logo at times.

It’s kinda funny because LA Galaxy have used what would be an almost perfect LAFC kit (I think this might have been a super dark blue, can’t tell for sure).

Third kit before the throwback/LA flag wacky colors one right? Definitely grey. I hope some LAFC fans wear a Beckham one to be funny.

I'm sure it wouldn't make a ton of business sense since the idea is to HAVE a sponsor to generate money, but teams should allow the option of being able to chose if you want the sponsor on the jersey or not. I was on Celtics shop and they allow that so that could be something teams look into.

Somehow my club, Sacramento Republic, got the opportunity to host LAFC’s first ever match in their new kits. Not only will LAFC be playing their first match in brand spanking new kits, Republic will also be debuting their brand new jerseys that I made. This is gonna be a fun afternoon!

I know this may never happen, and I understand MLS needs money to compete with bigger leagues, but I would LOVE to see sponsor ads completely removed from club jerseys.

Instead of shirt ads, I'd prefer commercial breaks during the broadcast. No stoppages of play; just put the broadcast on delay during each commercial break, and then pick the game up where it left off.

That would be much better than ruining the aesthetics of the uniform. It's very unfortunate that teams don't grasp that the only brand logo that belongs on the shirt is the team's own crest.

At this point, it'll never be an either/or proposition. Even if clubs clubs adopt commercial breaks into their broadcasts, there's no way they'd give up selling jersey sponsorships. And I wouldn't blame them. Its just too lucrative of a sales opportunity to pass up, and it's not like MLS clubs are so profitable that they can pass up revenue on principle.

Little off topic.

So I saw pics from DC United's match against the Las Vegas Lights (USL) about an hour ago. It was my first time seeing the Lights jerseys. They're... interesting

I clearly missed any reaction post to these that was made here lol.

Even if such a thing was under consideration, I’d never make that trade.

You'd end up with broadcasts ending an hour after the actual game ends.  No, thanks.

You'd also have to tape delay them to fit in the breaks.

No can do. I’m too young to not feel compulsively obliged to check my phone and social media every three minutes regardless of what I’m doing, especially if what I’m doing is watching sports. Spoilers would be abound.

LAFC is still wearing their training shirts and shorts for today’s game, not their new match kits.

Yeah, in an unfortunate turn of events, LAFC was unable to get their new kits up to Sacramento in time for the match. We found that out early this afternoon, and in turn have decided to hold off on wearing our new game kits until the regular season. It’s a bit disappointing for us because we wanted to make a special note of it. It’s also confusing and frustrating for everyone involved because the LAFC training jerseys don’t even have numbers on them.

If that happened I'd stop supporting and watching the MLS. Commercials kill other sports for me. Makes games way too long.

This I don't understand at all.

I may not be young, but I love looking at my phone as much as anyone half my age does. I am reading stuff constantly; unlike some other people my age, I completely approve of the practice of constantly looking at one's phone.

In fact, just today I was watching the Chelsea - Man United match -- on my DVR, as I do almost all games that I watch in any sport -- and I certainly was reading stuff on my phone all throughout the match. But I made sure not to read anything related to soccer or even to sports.

Reading an article at Salon or The Atlantic or The New Yorker is never going to reveal spoilers. I simply stayed away from The Guardian or anything soccer-related until the match was over. You do have a choice what you read, you know.

I'd appreciate pee breaks. One of the reasons that I prefer watching soccer on the DVR is that I can insert my own pee breaks -- or breaks for anything else, such as a phone call, a nap, a run to the store or to the laundromat, etc.

(The other reason is that I get to watch the game at my preferred time. This preference long predates DVRs. In the 90s I used to tape CFL games on ESPN and watch them over successive mornings while getting dressed for work.)

I’m with you on this (at least partly). Commercial breaks would be kind of bogus, but I’d much prefer “this corner kick/penalty kick/any specific game event brought to you by...” over a jersey ad. There’s always a mute button.

The kits are underwhelming (and I hope the numbers on the black jersey will be gold like their Vela t-shirts are), but I still plan on buying the home jersey. It’s our first one.

I plan on buying a jersey as well, as you said because it's the first one.

But man, I can't help but be a little disappointed.

The red button and the white YouTube TV stick out like a sore thumb against the simple black/gold (white/gold) of both kits. We've seen the YouTube logo in gold on marketing materials, and hell, YouTube gives out golden play buttons to channels that reach 100,000 subscribers. It wouldn't be all that out of place. It's not going to hurt YouTube.

I would've liked some sort of collar detail as well. The whole thing is simple and a little understated, which I can actually really dig (and probably should have expected from their work at Orange County SC), but as pointed out, aside from the extra-subtle details on the front of the jersey, it's basically the training kit with a YouTube logo plastered on the front.

But gotta support and rep the club. At least to start. (And honestly, LAFC probably knows that too. Gotta step up that kit game in the next go around.)

---

But as a first-time MLS jersey buyer, what's the real difference between the replicas and the authentics? Is it worth the extra $35 to get the authentic?

This was how it was during every USL OCSC game. “This corner kick is brought to you by Walgreens, at the corner of happy and healthy”

I thought these would grow on me, but they aren't.

They look like the end result of walking into one of those "custom airbrushed tshirts" stores in the mall and saying, "Make me look like a Power Ranger."
