I loved that one. I think it's my second favorite, after the flag motif they used in 2013:

No thanks This World Series logo is in every respect superior to the current one. If Major League Baseball just kept this strong and dignified design as the yearly template, that would be great. To call 2D design "sterile" is to reveal a infantile fascination with clipart-calibre doodads that are in no way approprite for anything professional. Elements of faux-3D (depth; shadows; bevels) are just silly self-indulgences, designers' toys which necessarily detract from the overall design. Two dimensions are all that any design ever needs. 2 minutes ago, radchad said: This is pretty nice! It is reminiscent of the beautiful template that was in place from 1980 through 1986. The idea of changing the World Series logo every year is a mistake. The World Series should have a consistent brand identity. The Super Bowl tends to keep the same basic logos for years on end. The NBA wisely returned to the classic script logo for the Finals after more than a decade of shockingly horrible Finals logos; that elegant script was a most effective scene-setter. They have dropped that script again; but they have gone with a powerful and straightforward design. Ideally, this could last for decades.

The new Finals logo is as boring as that 2D World Series logo. It does about as much to symbolize the event as typing the world in a Word Doc and does nothing for me. Abandoning that Finals script was a horrible decision that creates a bland identity for the playoffs when the previous look implied gravitas. Professional designs can include more elements that simple colors and 2D design if executed well, and I would agree with the sentiment that the new World Series logo handles its elements well. I know you're of a fairly traditionalist perspective on design, but keep in mind that it is simply your opinion. I think the flag motif is cool for the World Series, given the trophy, but my favorite is the aforementioned leaf motif, by a healthy margin. Interesting concept, and great execution. I'm beginning to wonder whether we're about to see the return of the gradient in design. I hope not, as I'm not a huge fan, but these things move in cycles, and it seems like gradients are about to make a comeback. I'd say gradients already are back in a lot of applications -- ideal mix for the current times, throwback to 90s raver aesthetic plus simple, breezy web design aesthetic. This is a rare time MLB design is right on trend. Fan Style ShirtsShowcasing fan-made sports apparel by artists and designers

I would imagine since they are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the '89 "Why Not?" team that nearly went last to first. Confirmed by a t-shirt giveaway and former players making an appearance. SilverBullet1929
As a teenager in the 90s I have fond memories of the World Series logo used through most of that decade. It was also the logo for the World Series Baseball video game series of 1994 and 1995. Anyone else think highly of that logo even if it's just nostalgia driven? I also like 10, 04,06,11,13,15, and 17 quite a bit. My favorite though is 07, for reasons. I'm a fan of this, I think it's a nice design with a little flair. Overall though I think all of the best WS logos have at least one of the following elements: flags, leaves, the trophy, or a globe. Those are all really nice elements that convey their own unique imagery that really works with the WS. The_Admiral
The only problem with the autumnal World Series logo was putting "Fall Classic" in the logo. That's what the leaves are for, ya big dummy! Let's go down the line here: NBA Finals: should be the same logo every single year, the cursive one we all love so Stanley Cup Final: should be mostly the same with maybe a few tweaks every couple years World Series: should change a little every year but staying within a general concept of fall and tradition Super Bowl: should change significantly every year to reflect the host city ♫ oh yeah, board goes on, long after the thrill of postin' is gone ♫

FiddySicks
The Burgh? Come on now. I do love that Cubs cap, though. I picked up that same cap from Hat Club (USA poly, too) a year or two ago. I know a bunch of Cubs fans around here don't like it, but the walking bear cub in the C logo is one of my absolute favorite logos in sports. GriffinM6
They should've used "Steel City" if they weren't going to put Pirates or Pittsburgh on the jersey. Still better than the Players' Weekend uniforms though.

Around the Horn
The Pirates jersey should have said "Bucs". I think it would fit more with the Cubs' jersey that says "Cubbies".

Wasn't last year's Players' Weekend an homage to Little League? Seems like these would've been good evolution of that theme for this year. Too bad it's only limited to one game rather than league-wide. I'd have considered buying a Twins' version of this.
