MLB 2019 Changes

You sure?  Because the Astros might actually be wearing cream.  That's what their roads were back in the late 80s.

The Astros are wearing their set worn from 1988-93 tonight. It's a cream colored jersey worn both at home and on the road during that period.

And the worst part is they’re facing the Orioles who are hosting the 1989 “Why Not?” team and they aren’t even wearing throwbacks for the honoring.

The Brewers are wearing their "retro" uniforms as they always do on Friday nights at Miller Park. But tonight they happen to be hosting an old AL rival in the Texas Rangers which makes it feel all the more appropriate.

If the Brewers are gonna go forward with a "dual brand" as many are predicting, then the way to do it, IMO, is to go with a royal blue-based set with powder blue roads, which they'd wear strictly when they play American League teams. They were, after all, the first team to ever switch leagues. This would at least be a logical way to embrace that unique aspect of their history.

Unpopular opinion:

The Orioles ornithological bird is better than any iteration of their cartoon bird.

Really love those o’s caps, as good as the current branding is, they really nailed it in the 90s

They make me nostalgic for my childhood.... unfortunately I don't think they were selling this particular cap otherwise I'd be all over it.

I could go either way between ornithological or cartoon bird, honestly. That said, I prefer the ornithological birds from 1999-2011 over that ‘89 one. Something always looked off about it, it’s not drawn particularly well and the head and beak look quite small, for starters. The ones from ‘99 on* may have been a bit over detailed in comparison, but I thought them much better renderings. The only thing I would’ve done different to either one of them was make the orange outline just a little bit thicker around it so that you could make out the tail feathers and feet a little better on the cap.

*Not counting the one year ‘98 one, the fixes in ‘99 were much better.

The Astros wore white at home and cream (some call it Alamo) on the road during that period. While there isn’t a ton of difference, there were actually different home and road sets.

That's how I remember it as well.  As a kid, I used to stare at baseball cards trying to find the difference since I think they were the only team that didn't have gray uniform pants (other than the Cubs for a bit, since they wore white pants with blue top for a few years during that era.)

IIRC most of the photos for Astros players were taken either during ST or on the road - presumably because of lighting in the dome... not sure - but here's one that appears to be taken in Houston:

These were the throwbacks in the Throwbackapalooza that I was most looking forward to and they did not disappoint. A lot of people on social media were gushing over these and I was included. This is what a baseball uniform should look like.

If this was brought back full-time (provided the C got a slightly thicker red outline and they used the 1990's number font) I'd be a super happy Reds fan.
