So the Syracuse Chiefs will be the... Syracuse Devices tomorrow night. Yes, with a logo of a shoe size measurer with eyes and a mouth and feet.

I can't decide if a minor league team paying homage to a Brannock Device is evidence of MiLB one-game name changes jumping the shark, or the harbinger of a fun new wave of non-food one-offs.

Fightin Phils play annual morning game as Reading Whoopies

June 4, 2018 - 12:23 PM

In just about an hour, the Reading Fightin Phils will play their 17th annual morning game, and for the second year in a row, they’ll do so in an alternate, food-based identity, the Reading Whoopies. The history of Whoopie Pies […]

I wish more teams did morning games. That seems like the perfect idea for players weekend.

A lot of Eastern and Midwest leagues have 'educational' games where they start at 10am or so mid-week. Akron had two on back-to-back days. It's great for the players if it's the last game of a series before a road trip or an off day.

You know some old-timer in the Phils' branding department was like, "Why don't we do this promotion:  'The Reading Cream Pies!'" and the entire office all looks at each other awkwardly.  Some close tabs on their laptops and phones.  Others raise eyebrows of sudden interest.

Just discovered this used from 1988-1991.  Has this ever been used as a throwback, I love it.

Are you sure that isn't a throwback? I see a pretty modern-looking patch on the sleeve with what looks like a 20th anniversary patch.

Dayton Dragons to wear promotional jersey for first time ever

June 6, 2018 - 12:58 PM

The Dayton Dragons don’t need help selling tickets. They will not be holding a Star Wars Night with promotional jerseys or rebranding for one game as a local food item (the Dayton Square-Cut Pizzas, maybe?). The Dragons, a Single-A affiliate of […]

Wilmington Blue Rocks introduce Mr. Celery uniforms

June 7, 2018 - 11:49 AM

Good on them trying to bring light to something worthwhile instead of being a laughing stock.

100% agree with you here. Instead of branding themselves as some stupid local food or uniforms that look like something from a film, they use their platform for good. I like this.

The Brooklyn Cyclones have another food-based promotional identity for this year:

Introducing The Brooklyn Bagels

First, the Cyclones transformed into the Coney Island Franks to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Nathan’s Famous. Then, in 2017, the Cyclones became the Brooklyn Slices, in honor of the cheese-covered piece of heaven that is as synonymous with the borough as the Brooklyn Bridge. This year, the team will pay tribute to another one of the culinary treats that the borough is known for when the team becomes the Brooklyn Bagels on Sunday, July 22nd when they take on the Lowell Spinners.

The 1:00 PM game will have a special Brunch & Baseball package where fans will be able to enjoy a Sunday Brunch from 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM featuring breakfast staples like bacon & eggs and – of course- bagels. There will also be juice, coffee and water included in the $30 package as well as a limited-edition Brooklyn Bagels t-shirt. In addition, there will be Mimosas and other adult beverages for sale.

But that’s not all, the first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive a Brooklyn Bagels Neck Pillow.

This is probably the best one-off they've done yet.  I might actually consider getting that cap.

The hat logo feels like a shame, as it's a lot of detail lost on a small space, but the overall look is wonderful.  Minor League Sports + Food Branding = Perfection.
