Washington Commanders to debut new NFL identity

Not surprised to see the reactions in here, what a mess.

Pros:

  • The primary helmet is nice (despite the lack of branding consistency on the W). I thought removing the helmet stripes was a mistake on the WFT uniform and the single gold stripe works.
  • The top of the burgundy jersey looks fine, strictly on aesthetics.
  • The name is inoffensive, which is the :censored:ing least they could do. Same with the logo.
  • I don't mind the top/bottom line motif.

Cons:

  • The introduction of black detracts from everything else their doing. There is pretty much nothing cohesive or redeemable about the white jersey and nobody asked for a Steelers color rush set from Washington (the number font doesn't help the Pitt comparison).
  • If you're going to put a logo on the front of the helmet, don't be a wimp. SLAP A BIG OL W ON THERE.
  • I think they made terrible choices with the sleeve stripes. The burgundy is their best look easily and they decided to steal the Chiefs stripes instead of using any number of great unique options from their own history. Self own.
  • Stripeless pants in monochrome, :censored: off.

Very good comparison . . . and one I hadn't thought of.

It seems like 90% of uniform unveils these days feature a monochrome home uniform, a monochrome pajama white uniform, and an all-black alternate (even when black isn't even part of the color scheme).

Are they even leaving open the possibility of mixing and matching? Doesn't seem like it. No more white over burgundy? Ridiculous.

Take this uniform, swap the spear and former name for a “W” and “COMMANDERS”, and they’d have one of the very best uniforms in football.

It’s amazing how badly you can blow it when you overthink everything and miss the obvious answers staring at you in your very own archive. It’s legitimately frustrating to watch.

Damn those 2002 (technically a throwback but still) jerseys ruled.

With a :censored:ty rebrand, a crumbling stadium and a dip :censored: of an owner, they might as well just move to San Antonio.

Today's announcement and launch mark the beginning of the next phase of the team's rebrand process. Over the next two years, the team will work closely with fans to pull forward traditions under a new banner and combine them with new traditions fans will help to create, including bringing back the fight song and designing the second alternate uniform.

This whole franchise is like a decade behind the times. The previous name should've been dropped long ago and the new uniforms are something straight out of the Nike Pro Combat series from ten years ago. Combine that with the inappropriate behavior within the organization and overall negative workplace environment, it's obvious Snyder operates in another reality.

Far from great, but still better than just Football Team. I too will miss the foundation of the old R**Skins uniforms, because they were legitimately fantastic, but they were so associated with the old name and logo that making a change was the right move.

Disappointed that it’s not two different sets like I thought at first, because it makes this whole thing a huge disjointed mess. I don’t even really hate the black. I just wish they would’ve made a road set that matched the home set and just used the black alt and road jersey as a pair.

More than anything, I’m just happy this whole naming saga is finally over. Been a VERY long time coming.

Teams unveil monochrome to show each element in every possible color. You can be assured there will be mixing and matching, for better or worse (see the jets black pants)
