Not sure how many of you are familiar with Washington players, but…

Those three dudes are definitely not Jonathan Allen, Terry McLaurin, or Chase Young

Take the helmets out of the equation and you could make the argument that these are uniforms for three different teams.

There's some information on the Commanders website.

Some but its pretty vague.

The identity article mentions fans and focus groups but doesn't mention Nike.

I keep looking at the shoulder cap on the away uniform. That's a very specific, intentional design. It's essentially a negative image of the home jersey stripes with empty space where the gold stripes are on the burgundy jersey but it also has the gradient pattern.

There's a story there.

It is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

Not to mention that they sloppily copied the burgundy sleeve color rather than going with white, I think you are giving them way too much credit. The white jersey is incongruous and black for black's sake.

After the curtain has been pulled back over the last several years as to how the league manages itself I would never use the nfl and the word intellectual in the same statement. The nfl should just stick to their core competency which is intellectually dishonest property like military cosplay merchandise and corporatized empty phrases like inspire change. Leave the numerals to the professional archeologists and stick to sprots.

Commanders already changing their new crest

https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2022/02/17/commanders-already-changing-their-new-crest/

The Commanders unveiled their new name and all that goes with that two weeks ago. They already are having to rework the crest.

The crest pays homage to the team’s history, with dates of its five championships listed.

But the years of the championships include the year the Super Bowls were played, not the seasons they came in, as the team’s fans noted. So while the Cowboys are recognized as the 1992 Super Bowl champions, the Commanders list 1992 as their championship season since the 1991 Washington team won Super Bowl XXVI on Jan. 26, 1992.

The team tweaked the crest, changing the years to Roman numerals of the game, Michael Phillips of the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports. But NFL approval is required for all changes to logos and team identities, and the league denied Washington’s request, according to Phillips.

The NFL holds copyrights to the Roman numerals used as Super Bowl identifiers.

The Commanders are working on ways to tweak the crest in response to fan feedback while marketing new merchandise.

Of course, this is a mere snag compared to the bigger problem the Commanders face in regard to sexual harassment and other alleged misconduct within the team’s workplace.

Nothing says competence better than screwing up the dates and subsequent trademarking of a logo element in which the mere existence of said element is an admission that no dates are expected to be added for an indefinite period of time.

So all those years their Super Bowl and NFL Championship wins. If they win another title, they'll have to create a new one with updates. If they ever become dominent and win back to back Titles, it become a hassle to change it 2 years in a row.

Snyder has never been about winning, so the logo team will never have to sweat about changing it

I am genuinely curious in the *how* and the *why* of this process.

It would have been so easy to to a black/burgundy recolor of the home jersey, with burgundy replace gold and black replacing white. But that's not what happened. Instead we got a DC flag gradient pattern that's nowhere else in the entire brand identity.
