Interesting that the 2024 Rays media guide cover photo has players in the old Nike/Majestic template. And it's not even last year's uniforms because last year they replaced the devil ray sleeve patch with the 25th anniversary patch.

Sunshine and water...yep, that's good ol' Florida for you, so says the native.

That said, I know they're not gonna do it but...can the Rays rebrand already?? If they absolutely must keep the sun and the stingray rather than one or the other, there's got to be a better way to blend the two than...this.

(And if they must keep this same colorway, this cover may show a far more interesting way to deploy it...)

Could they get away with yellow as a base color if the blue outlines, say the blue above the navy in that picture, were thick enough on the numbers and scripts? Yellow hats, yellow socks, something like that? Rays of sunshine, the sun is yellow (as drawn by a child), and every Tampa team would be built around a different primary color.

They currently play in a stadium that feels like a planetarium dome with the house lights on. They would probably look even more washed out than the Chargers do playing under that plastic sun shade

In MLB The Show 24, the Dodgers have an "Alternate 1" listed and it is the blue jersey. It is very curious because it was not there any other year and the video games tend to only include uniforms that are worn in the Regular Season and there are no Spring Training jerseys in the game.

As of this year, all Spring Training-specific jerseys, with the exception of the Yankees and Tigers, have been retired per Nike, so any jersey not previously worn during the regular season is now designated as an “alternate” in the 2024 Style Guide. This applies to the Dodgers’ blue jerseys, the Reds’ Mr. Redlegs jersey, and I’m not sure who else.

The Rangers remind me of the previous Twins set.

I hated that set.

Navy, Red and a special shade of gold, it was unique.

Now they look like 5 other teams........

Another minor change I noticed for the Braves. The script on the old jerseys had red text raised sitting on top of the navy blue outline. The new jersey appear to use a red twill base layer with the blue outline raised. You can see both here.

Of the 7 teams that have a navy & red color scheme, the Twins are now the only one that do not utilize an outline on their wordmarks & numbers.

In fact, they are one of only 4 teams in the league overall that don't use outlines on any of their main jerseys (the others being the Royals, Dodgers, and now the Yankees).

If anything, I think their lack of outlines helps them stand out possibly the most among the 7 navy & red teams, 5 of which utilize a red wordmark with a navy outline:

Men's Atlanta Braves Matt Olson Nike White Home Elite Player JerseyMen's Boston Red Sox David Ortiz Nike White Home Elite JerseyMen's Cleveland Guardians Nike White Home Elite Custom JerseyMen's Los Angeles Angels Nike White Home Elite JerseyMen's Minnesota Twins Carlos Correa Nike White Home Elite JerseyMen's St. Louis Cardinals Sonny Gray Nike White Home Elite Player JerseyMen's Washington Nationals Luis Garcia Nike White Home Elite Player Jersey

The Twins previous home jersey actually looked pretty similar to the Nationals, just with an ugly mustard gold color thrown in as an accent. Plus, their previous set was a complete mismatched mess, where that gold color only appeared at home, not on the road, and every single jersey had a different striping pattern.

I truly think the Twins went from one of the worst identities in the league to a Top-5 uniform set with their rebrand last year.

It's hard to say that anyone looks "similar to the Nationals" because they've changed things so often that they don't even look similar to the Nationals. If anything, gold/mustard trim felt more Nationals-y (the Twins had dibs on that script/color treatment decades earlier) but the Nats didn't keep that, either.

The Braves blue is slightly brighter but it's very noticeable to me...especially in the photos I have seen of the blue tops, they almost look purple in certain lighting. I can't tell if that is my eyes playing tricks and mixing colors because the piping is now red (red + blue = purple), but the new shade of blue will take some getting used to.

What I do kind of like is that the new blue jerseys can plausibly be worn both home and on the road, wheras the previous ones were designed specifically to be worn with grey pants. I wonder if the Braves will ever toy with the idea of wearing those at home? Afterall, while they have worn red alternates since the alternate era began, the most commonly worn Braves shirsey has been blue with red numbers and a red script -- a look that was not part of an on-field jersey until the last few years.

I just wanted to give some much-deserved applause to this absolutely perfect description of Tropicana Field. Bravo!👏👏

That's a fair point. I think the most recent set they had (which they just butchered ahead of this season) was just a few subtle tweaks away from becoming a really solid, cohesive set. Namely, I would have gone with the two-stripe pattern across the board, and flipped the colors of the away script to match the home (as I've concepted for them).

They could go the Bad News Bears style with blue single color number and letters, with yellow piping and undershirts.

And the perfect sleeve sponsor:

But in all seriousness, it would be interesting to see an MLB team try yellow as a primary again.

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but does has anyone else noticed that ESPN is still using the Black/Red/Sand Diamondbacks graphics?

I can't remember seeing it or not last season, but they were still using the Cardinals' old STL well after the update. I guess the person who kept the logos up to date was a part of the one of the mass layoffs over the last few years.

Yeah, I'd agree with that -- nudging the color balance toward navy and the front number would've helped. That or the curly-W only on the front, though that's not my favorite look (more of a beveled-DC guy I think). Obviously they've gone well into the realm of confusion, regardless.

One other thing I still want to complain about re: the Twins is that, while the home looks great and has grown on me for the reasons others have beat to death already, it also looks a little bit lonely in the overall set, given the away set's abandonment of the TC and the script, and the City Connect (which is worn too much) losing the red. I know uniform set-wide cohesion and consistency is an outdated concept but it bugs me.

Once again, the Twin Cities jersey is not our City Connect. That is just an alternate. We are getting a City Connect this season.

And the TC hat at home/M hat on the road is a call back to the 2000's when we used to do that, even down to the pinstripes on the road. Our current set is awesome, and my only complaint is Nike's stupid 4+1 rule so we can't have a powder blue version of our home uniform

The curly W jersey grew on me after it was gone, that was a really solid, unique jersey for them. They shouldn’t have gotten rid of the red version.

Even though I love the new “M” cap personally, I have a feeling it might be dropped within the next few years, due to the surprising amount of distaste I have seen of it on social media. I’d be fine with them going with the “TC” for the road grays, but I would keep the M cap for the navy alternate, since the TC already appears on the sleeve patch.

The cream jersey actually isn’t their City Connect (even though it says “Twin Cities”), their actual City Connect will be revealed later this summer.

Interestingly, based off of my count from Uniform Lineup, the Twins wore their white, gray, and navy jerseys exactly equally in 2023, 46 times each, and wore the cream 24 times. In the grand scheme of things, that’s honestly a pretty perfect distribution if you ask me.

I have a strong hope/suspicion that the City Connect will be powder blue. That was the one thing I was sad to let go of with the rebrand, and I have a feeling the team feels the same way, given that powder blue is still featured in many social media graphics.

Yet it seems like all I see at Twins games is the new M hat being worn everywhere. I was just in Fort Myers to catch some Spring Training games and it was all over the place. I don't think that logo's going anywhere anytime soon.
