It's funny you say this because the uniforms in The Show look way better than they do in real life at this point.

I'm old and probably thinking of 2K14 😕

The Braves play in an hour and we will get an answer about the belt loop piping. It’s been modified to work on the new Nike home pants but has been inexplicably missing from the road pants. It’s weird because they should be identical, save for white vs gray. I’m hoping that’s been fixed.

The Diamondbacks new red helmets I thought looked great, glossy lids need to come back into style in MLB. You're right that the logo gets kind of lost, but that particular logo isn't going to look very good on any dark background. Arizona has such a fascinating identity for me, because between their past and present there's so many styles and color combinations that sound great in theory -- but they just have not put a uniform onto the field that isn't distracting in a long time.

The new home breaks that trend for me. I didn't think it when they initially unveiled it, but I thought it looked really nice yesterday (the previous home also looked nice, but I just have not liked the minor league D-Backs scripts)

Not a uniform change, but aesthetics-related, the Rays changed the artificial turf at Tropicana field and it looks much better to me.  Apparently it performs better too but for watching on TV makes the place brighter and more colorful.  The clips I saw from opening day were looking pretty good.

Just realized this was covered on the main site.  Here's the pictures from the main site.  I think the bright green grass is a look that's really good for the Rays.

I actually don't think it was that bad a look, in fact I think it was a clean design, but it could never live up to their previous look which has definitely been cemented in baseball history through the legend of Randy Johnson and the 2001 world series.  So that original look looms like a shadow over the team in a way the Rays old look never could.

So they tried to bring stuff in like the teal highlights and snakeskin patterns, trying to have it both ways.

Basically the last 8 years have been gradually simplifying things, and I think they've finally found something that, barring a change to the original colors, is a good look for the team:

-no corny "D-BACKS" script

-we settle on red and teal,

-the main identity is the A on the left breast, as it should be.

The old turf looked good for a week until it got worn down and could easily tell it was artificial turf in a warehouse again.

If these uniforms are going to stick around (and of course they are, money's going to trump aesthetics 11 times out of 10 in modern pro sports,) the Mariners need to make adjustments as urgently as anyone. I never liked the switch to three-layer letters and numerals that forced in silver, but with the size reduction and new "I can't believe it's not screen printed" twill eliminating the sparkle of the silver, the two outer layers completely disappear at any distance. They look like Rays jerseys when the M's are pitching.

No belt loop piping for the Braves road pants. That mismatch with the home will drive me absolutely nuts. Inexcusable. Hopefully it’s just for a short while and it can be fixed. The Braves belong in belt loop piping.

Seeing the Diamondbacks' new home uniforms with the red helmets is interesting. The color balance with the uniform is great, but the logo just gets lost on the helmet with the teal outline.  spacer.png

Im not so sure about these. I’m never really a fan of a cap where the bill is the darker part of the uniform, especially at home. That and the cream color just looks out of place to me. It’s going to take some getting used to, in the very least.

It’s more subtle and smarter this time around, but it still ultimately feels like the D Backs are trying to split the difference between the mid 2000s set and their original look. They should probably just do what they used to/what the Buccaneers do with their throwbacks. Go with the more fitting theme, and only bust out the colorful throwbacks somewhat sparingly.

I know there are uniform “rules” (blah blah) in place now, but if I was the king of sports uniforms, I would say the D Backs can wear their throwbacks once every ten games, and whatever game that landed on would determine what uniform they would wear. For example, the D Backs used to wear the sleeveless cream pinstripe purple set on Sundays at home. If the tenth game fell there, that’s what they would wear. If it fell on a Wednesday road game, they would wear the regular road throwbacks. And so on and so forth.

I didn't think the removal of white trim would make a difference, but I think the Yankees really are better without it. It's subtle in the eyes of other people, but I immediately noticed it when seeing highlights.

I think this hat and helmet is unnecessary. They should just use the all-black alternate hat or the all-red snake D alternate with the home jersey. Both highlight the teal a lot more, and both look better IMO.

I think that's been a bit of a controversial subject on these boards for years, with a slight majority favoring dropping white.  I really don't know that there's any team that needs a white outline on their gray uniform, or that looks better with one than they would without.  I'd be fine with the Phillies dropping their white, although it's been less obnoxious since the "standardization" of 2019.

I think the Angels do and you can see it in these new jerseys where they, for whatever reason though I do have a theory why, added the outlines to the front number but not the back.

Maybe it's the fact that the red and blue shades are both dark on a grey jersey making it look drab but I think the white adds a pop to the numbers. Plus now it matches the outlines on the script whereas none of the numbers on the white nor the greys previously ever did. However, now it's only slightly less inconsistent and the red jerseys numbers don't match anymore, so one step forward two steps back.

I also think the Reds post-Big Red Machine greys look better with the white outline.

Didn't the coolbase material wick too?   I don't recall them looking like that.  I suppose this means that these jerseys wick more, which Nike would say is a feature not a bug, but sheesh - that's hard to look at.  Even if he's dry on the inside, it looks like that'd be very uncomfortable.

Also - is "Wet-Ass Yankee" an acceptable user name?  Asking for a friend.

Per Paul Lukas, the Royals were forced to switch from normal-sized player names in Spring Training to the new tiny ones for the regular season, due to an unknown entity demanding "consistency."
