This is the UFL! (XFL/USFL Merger)

Probably a solid investment, too. I can’t imagine there are too many of those floating around, and people LOVE that obscure sports league stuff.

The "Awful" UFL.

I'm just curious... exactly... what the Rock and Redbird Capital BOUGHT from Vince McMahon. A couple of team names, of which they changed the logos or names/colors? Some former contracts for venues maybe? Some basic equipment in storage maybe?

Because to spend the $15m or so they reportedly paid and now a year later have given up the name to XFL (which apparently was a good portion of what they were buying), and the team names (only three of which remain, one was modified, and none of them are using their original logos). What exactly did they buy?

After all, the USFL went after the IP rights to glom onto that and are also giving it up. But didn't pay an exorbitant price for them.

I was a member as well and I remember some schmuck who claims to have started an actual football league he called "American Football League."  Everyone called him out on it, but he doubled down and tripled down on the name of the league because he said he never got a cease and desist from the NFL for the name "American Football League" because the NFL was no longer using the name of the league, despite the fact every team from the 1960's American Football League is still in existence today. It was this league:

Will Birmingham play in the American Football League? (birminghamprosports.com)

I mainly remember some lady from KC claiming everybody from the northeast was evil or something like that. Oh and the huge push for the Omaha team to be called the Zombies lol

So apparently the Arlington vs. Birmingham game will take place in Arlington on March 30th.  In that case, the game needs to be played in the Afternoon because at 6:05 Central, the Texas Rangers will be raising their World Series Banner next door.

  • Cujo changed the title to This is the UFL! (XFL/USFL Merger)

With the defunct teams, Vegas and Pittsburgh are unlikely to ever come back unless Vegas gets an MLS team with a 25.000 seat retractable roof stadium (MLS to Las Vegas is inevitable at this point, but they will probably have to play at Allegiant).  I am not sure this league wants to pay an expensive price to have the Maulers at Acrisure.

I'd like to see how this chopped and glued UFL does for a year before thinking about expansion.

If this doesn't work, I don't see how spring football could ever be viable. I'd like to see it happen, however, "trust but verify" is the phrase that comes to mind.

The Roughnecks will remain instead of the Gamblers and move to the USFL Division.

Just think how many brains had to malfunction in the same place at the same time for this to be the end result of the merger.

1.5 seasons for the UFL. Hammer the under.

They made a huge mistake by not having the Maulers play at Highmark Stadium(the Pittsburgh one), they would have filled it up, 5,000 fans in a 5,000 seat stadium in Pittsburgh looks way better than a 500 people in a 25,000 seat stadium in Canton, Ohio.

I would get this if they went 4-4 for each league, but having an XFL and USFL conference with the USFL conference actually having an XFL team name is sooooooooo lameeeeeeee

Want to be united? Do a north and south or east and west. Mix in the teams. It doesn't matter now that Arlington and Birmingham are defending champions in each league since they have 0 titles in this new one.

This looks cute for a one off game, but the needed facilities for a football league would cause a lot of traffic and other logistics issues. Soccer doesn't need as many cameras football does, and can you make sure there's no distractions on that train line during broadcasts? Pitt has used it for spring games which don't require all of the extra equipment, but this isn't somewhere you should be playing regular season league games. Canton wanted their own team, and dressing up the Maulers in Steelers colors wasn't helping that.

I'm still certain the only reason the Roughnecks survived is that UA already made their uniforms and they hadn't decided on uniform designs for the USFL teams coming in. So instead of wasting stock, they kept the Roughnecks and moved them to the USFL Conference.

I think we'll see a bump in the numbers from those fans that refused to watch one league or the other tuning in to see their teams playing that other league. How long that last depends on the league and the broadcasters. I think the Fox presentation being almost equal to the NFL broadcast in terms of graphics will tell some fans this is a good thing. The one thing I wish ESPN would drop, but I know they won't, is the bet trackers for the Over/Under.

Highmark would totally be able to the traffic and parking for Spring Football, a large amount of people park in the Station Square area for Steeler, Pitt and Pirate games and take the T or Gateway Clipper to the game.

I think Roughnecks was the better brand was that they actually had a vocal fan group and actually played in Houston. Nostalgia doesn't move a lot of things outside the boards. The USFL should have adopted the XFL model of training and gamedays, IMO. Then the Gamblers would have been able to profit off of their nostalgia with this team.

I think the problem for them was finding an affordable location that close to the start of college training camps. The Dynamo were not going to let them in, and NRG Stadium would be way too much for them to rent out for at most 15,000-25,000 a game. It's the same issue for the Maulers and possibly the New Orleans Breakers. In the case of the Breakers, I think it would be funny as hell if they were brought back but placed in Portland, Oregon along with the Seattle Sea Dragons coming back through expansion as a way to spread the league to the west.

I don't think the UFL wants a stadium that small for their league, although it would be beneficial to them to do so.
