Islanders fired Ted Nolan -- I wouldn't mind knowing what the problem is with this guy

I remember hearing somewhere that Nolan had been blackballed from the league after he slept with Hasek's wife during his Buffalo days.

I couldn't tell you if that rumor is true, but there has to be an insane reason why he doesn't seem to be welcome in the NHL.

I have to wonder about the timing of this firing. If the Isles weren't satisfied with Nolan, shouldn't he have been fired right after the season was over, not the middle of July?

I saw, I came, I left.

They did it under cover of darkness too with the ASG in New York, most Islanders fans probably dont event realize he has been fired.

Well, I guess it was either that or wait until the Mets were in the West Coast @ 11PM PST.....

Obviously the problems existed for a while. It would have been better if the organization fired Nolan at the end of the season and had someone in place for the draft. Newsday reported that Nolan had no input at all during the draft and sat at the other end of the table while the business was going on.

I've beena fan of this team for almost 30 years. I haven't been this frustrated with ownership and management since the eaely 90's. Except for the fluke Conference Finals trip in '93 this organization has been a joke. From Spano, to the "fishsticks" jersey to constantly putting a crap team on the ice, horrible trades and bad drafts it just doesn't end. No wonder no good free agents want to come to Long Island. The organization is just a damn joke.

I have a great idea for management. Instead of parading out the past and the greatness of the '80's, how about trying to make yourselves relevant and create new history instead of reliving the "glory days" of 80-83.

You know, this can also be applied to a certain bay area team that plays a different sport and is also coached by a guy named Nolan.

And that Bay Area team has an owner named.... YORK. Coincidence? I think not :therock:

pretty much sums up my feeling on the isles. Thats why there is hardly any interest in the team. They have not created an organization for which players want to play here, because they know ownership and management is a joke and has been for as long as i have been following this team and longer. Fans put up with so much and now have walked away. most everybody has come to expect a :censored: product and another losing season.

It's sad really.

That a team in pro sports has been basically just tossed to the side and labeled a joke.

All I want to know is "what's next?".

Dallas Drake retired today, if anyone cares. I don't, and he played on my favorite team.

The only thing I remember him for was having the ironic name of Drake when he played for the Ducks.

I am kind of surprised Nieuwendyk came to work for the Leafs after they tried to short change him after the lockout. I think this is a great move as it appears we are grooming him to either be the successor to Fletcher should we not be able to land a 'veteran' GM. If he is not being groomed to be the next GM, then I can see him being our next team president. Peddie should not leave MLSE but he should just live with all his other accomplishments (turning around a fledging NBA team, selling real estate, bringing a VERY popular MLS team to the city, etc) and step back from hockey and let those who know the game run it.

Short change him? Wanting to only sign him for one more year do to his health (which turned out to be the reason he stoped playing less then a year later)? That's short changing? Sounds like one of maybe 3 decent moves Ferguson made at the helm of this team.

Offering Roberts a 1 year, 1.5 Mill contract and Nieuwendyk a 1 year, 1.3 million contract. Thats what I am talking about.

We had a high team salary and had to get down below the cap. These guys were class veterans players who obviously only looked at the money side of things. They both have cups, so it's not like they have that as an excuse for leaving. At that stage in there career it shouldn't have been about the money. There getting a over a million dollars to play hockey, people forget how much money that is, to do something they would do regardless.

DiP gets hurt and Eric Fichaud is signed to be the starter. :P

I shudder at the thought
